Today Andrew Cuomo the Governor of New York laid into Moscow Mitch. Mitch McConnell the Republican majority leader of the United States Senate said that the federal government should not bail out states. Clearly he was talking about "blue" states. Cuomo reminded him that New York sends a net sum of over a hundred billion dollars a year to the federal government more than it takes in, while McConnells state, Kentucky takes in over a hundred billion dollars more than it sends to the federal government. Two points that I found amazing. The first is that McConnell based his statement on the basis of political party, not the fact that New York is an American state. The second is that New York is the financial center of the United States. If New York goes bankrupt, that will effect the entire country in ways that Mitch doesn't even want to think about.
