"Scientists have motives": That's a difference between scientists and science.
Sometimes a conscientious scientist (or, sometimes, a statistician) can filter out the motives (or biases) (even his or her own); examples are (1) double-blind studies and (2) something in statistics (I think one way is ANOVA: analysis of variance -- if we have any statisticians here they'll be able to explain it more thoroughly).
Scientists can publish their studies. The write-up of a study can demonstrate what precautions the scientist took to reduce, avoid, or eliminate biases.
Those write-ups are probably hard to read for most people (including me). But a person who understands the science will be able to evaluate the methods of the study. We commoners can more easily read digests and opinion pieces about them.
There will typically be bias somewhere in the process; for example, some studies don't get published because their conclusions aren't what the publishers want.

There'll be another from time to time, and maybe he or she will see something to stay for, before being overwhelmed by insults. Receiving 3 or 4 are ok, but 10 or 20 can make it not worthwhile anymore. If she doesn't come back, then I hope she found a better forum.

I like 2 lb line. If the line is too heavy you don't get the same enjoyment. I just wish you guys would stop scaring them away. You have to tease them. Make them think they are doing well. Like they have a chance to win. Then you set that hook.
I used to love catching mackerels. Eating them is another story. If they are fresh, they are not horrible, but after a few weeks in the freezer, they are animal food.

I've a dim view of mood-altering drugs. Moods have a reason for being. Rather than take an anti-depressant, I think I'd rather just be depressed. The mood just means I'm trying to solve a difficult problem.
