We've cut the news down to about an hour a day and reading is mostly left to my wife though I did read the Poldark series of books by Winston Graham if I remember correctly. The TV series followed the books fairly closely and gave an aspect of the 17 and 18 hundreds that's not fully available through history books. To have the hero's son k**led at Waterloo makes the victory more than a little bittersweet.
As for all-time worst presidents I have to list Trump thoroughly at the bottom simply because he was so unprepared to be president. I thought that was Obama's Achilles heel too but at least he had a basic understanding of how the federal government works. Trump is clueless which wouldn't have been so bad had this p******c not come along. He has honestly acted like a deer caught in the headlights though and in denial for the better part of 70 days then insisting on leading from behind for the remainder.
You conservatives like to attribute the deaths at Bingazhi to Obama's incompetence, and I would agree with you, but you seem to be staring into the never-never land when it comes to crediting several thousands of deaths from this v***s to Trump's general incompetence and unwillingness to accept responsibility for anything associated with the v***s. And if there is a rebound in the illness it will be completely due to Trump's insistence on restarting the economy before it was safe to do so. If that is to happen his lack of leadership and responsibility won't matter as America's unpreparedness will be placed squarely at Trump's feet. If he hasn't been reelected he won't be reelected with that albatross h*****g around his neck...
We've cut the news down to about an hour a day and... (

I have to agree with you, obama as a community organizer and due to his associates, was better prepared to be president...President Trump, a businessman without even a years experience in politics or mentors to guide him....totally unprepared. That is not saying much for either....and in light of that, we must keep in mind, they are only men. The major difference between the two, president Trump seems to genuinely care about us, the citizens of the USA. I think obama and his wife were prejudiced and that showed in many of his policies. My opinion, to lead our nation...the President has to become color, g****r, and religiously blind...treating all people as fairly (not equal) as possible. In the end, obama is no longer our president and we have a businessman who is struggling to wrap his mind around the very large job he has taken on.
Please do not get me started on Bengaziā¦.as a prior military, it is hard to accept that men needlessly were murdered when they could have and should have been helped. Captain "Tripps" flu is somewhat different. The Chinese were not t***hful and I believe that Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus knew it and allowed his sense of obligation to China to cloud his judgment. I think as the v***s is taken apart, we will find that there was more than one instantiation that was introduced simultaneously into the USA. I think the strain that hit Washington was closer to the China "mother" (less communicable and lethal) and the one in New York is an older strain, far more resistant to treatment....both with SARS and MERS backbones.
But, more to the point of your remark....could the POTUS have prevented their, the v***s, introduction or spread into the USA? With the advice WHO gave to the world, and that includes the CDC, no. Perhaps he should have not trusted him....but, he did and now we have two v***s....one more deadly than the other. I also believe that closing down the air travel in January while we had about a dozen infected was the right move, although by January it was much too late to eliminate the threat. And now, we have to face that this v***s will run a course and social distancing, hiding in homes, or bathing in hand sanitizer will not change the end result. The only thing that may help is a man-made v*****e or gaining a natural immunity. Finally, incubating patients, unless done by a trained geriatrics technician or physician, just may be the reason so many elderly are dying.
Now the issue of the economy. It is simple, do we go back to living now or put our hopes on a v*****e? If we go back to living now, people will get infected and some will die. If we put it off, people will get infected and people will die and perhaps more will if we rush a v*****e and v*****es can have other unwelcome side affects. And we also need to consider the fall out from simply hiding and waiting. Years ago, there would be a baby boom at the end...now with changes in society, there will be a divorce boom. Years ago, most families had small gardens to supplement the dinner table, not now. If the lock down continues, people are going to be hungry and hyper-emotional. Hunger and anger drives crime and emotional instability, ergo drug use and alcoholism, which in turn drives immediate death by suicide and long range medical issues leading to death. So, it is difficult....open the economy and salvage what we can, knowing additional people will die....or hide out knowing people will still die, but less news worthy because it will trickle out and silently k**l for years. Study the 'Great Depression' and the fall out from the depressed economy.
For a moment, you are now president....which option do you adopt? If I were president, I would take a deep breath and rip off the band aid knowing that the economy will be salvaged and those who get the v***s and survive will be stronger and pass on the immunity to this Chinese made v***s. Again, history.... those that survived the black death passed on an immunity for the 1919 flu and the survivors of 1919 passed on immunity that helped protect against the H1N1. I would do this knowing that ree******n will be difficult if not impossible, I would do this for the survival of our nation. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or one.
