I'm just curious . . how is home schooling coming along for those of you who have been forced into it due to C****-**? What are the major changes in your lives and has this been an eye-opener? I'd love to hear your comments.

Depending on the parents and the level of education would bring different answers.
My granddaughter a sophomore at LSU and she spends most of her days on her computer. My great granddaughter is in second grade and she is being homeschooled in a normal manner but also for sunshine ad exercise, my oldest daughter takes her on nature trips around the neighborhood, then they come home and make something creative which they photograph for the scrapbook. Some children don’t have parents who really care, so there you have my opinion.

I am glad I don't have kids at home. My brother tells me that in CA they don't have the pledge in the morning and they also don't have a picture of Washington on the wall as they did when we went to school. I guess for conservative parents this is a wonderful thing because the indoctrination of their children cannot be happening. For the uncaring parents the disruption of womb to tomb must be frightening.

You are right! For conservative parents, this is a blessing.

Kind of ironic that those of those that always put down homeschooling are now homeschooling! Teehee!!!

See your point but where does it say the parents even have the ability to home school themselves much less impressionable children?

Most parents care more about their children than any bureaucrat ever will. Parents only need a Bible, something like Dick and Jane to get them reading, flashcards for math, and chores to teach them responsibility. Everything else is gravy.

I used to homeschool on Thursdays others had the other days. It was long before C****a hit us we were just fed up with schools that taught kids little more than what they wanted them to know. Then the change in my life was I had one less day of work. I'm a farmer and I made it up either that night or the next day.

If you love the child enough, you make yourself able to do it.

Sure hope you are right. There is no doubt home schooling can be effective. Even back in the day schools taught the 3 R's, civics, history, etc and expected kids to sit down, shut up and try to learn, I was still home schooled before I was old enough to even go to school. My guardian person cared enough to ensure my brother and I were taught. I could read, write and do math even before my first day of school in Sept of 1939. What did I do in elementary school? Not a lot. Promoted to 9th grade at age 12, graduating from high school at 16. Second day after graduation, I was 'on my own' making my own living. That continued for 43 years, never out of work. Never an unemployment check. Not even a sick day taken. Retired in 1994 at age 60.
All this just to point out how home schooling could work.

We homeschooled our two girls on purpose up to high school and then let them go to public school. My younger daughter is just finishing her masters at U of South Dakota and is looking to go to Texas A&M for her doctorate. The older daughter almost made it out of high school without getting pregnant. Two different personalities, two results. Fortunately, the baby daddy stepped up and they’ve been married for 5 years and have the son and a daughter and are doing all right. I don’t regret the hours spent homeschooling at all.

In my area home schooling is pretty common and then there are several small private schools, supported by various churches . In my opinion the private schools and home schools are the way to go. There was a minister in town who home schooled his two boys and they each had earned PhD degrees at the University of Arkansas before they were 20 years old.
