If your income is below a certain amount, you are not required to file a tax form because there will be no refund. If you are in that category, but file a form anyway that does not require a direct deposit of a refund, you cannot put your bank information on the tax form (you are only allowed to do that if you are receiving a refund).

So it's a bit confusing as to whether the IRS will use the information on your tax form, or the info from your SS benefit to send the funds....

Actually that is not quite accurate. I put my bank info on my tax form for them to withdraw my balance due on that date I choose before April 15-so you do not need to be getting refund, but you do need to have some kind of result for the bank info to be good. I am SS recipient, and normally get my deposit the 3rd Wed of each month-will see about next week. Went to IRS.gov and they said I did not enter correct info-SS and address. Took it right off my 2019 return-hmmm.

Actually, that is a relief-at least I know I am not the only one. I have used this address for years on my tax return, so have no idea why they told me it did not match the record. Different information from different sources as to when.

Thanks for the response! Do you know of any people who are SS recipients that have received their direct deposits?

I got same message, but I did not fill in bank info on 2020 tax form, because I had no tax refund. I also did not file until 4/12, 2020.
There will be a payment on SSA, but my guess is it may show up with normal cycle of SSA deposit. No check day 2 and they reported 60 million checks sent for Wed. My bank said no SSA recipient received a check yesterday, unless they had refunds coming back to them.

Have not found any info on when I might expect a check. I am also going to attempt to file an update on tax filing today with added bank info.
I got same message, but I did not fill in bank inf... (show quote)
