All This Talk Of Government Paying People Who Get Laid Off Is Confusing People

My wife has a critical business as a veterinarian. Apparently one of her employees heard all the hoopla about being able to get pay and unemployment and just decided last Friday she wasn't going to come in the next Monday because her husband is 73.

My wife and I went round and round, I told her she was not going to support that she had cut hours or laid her off when she had not done so, and that without either her employee or her knowing how government assistance was going to work either one could be screwing themselves out of a future assistance depending on how long this goes. Employees that later found out they were being cut out of an assistance they could have gotten would throw the employer under the bus in a heartbeat. I told her we run things by the book so we have no worries about doing anything we can get in trouble for later and we sure as hell aren't going there for an employee...and that's the technical aspect...

That just tipped me off the deep end on moral and ethical regards. The idea that a woman who has an excellent boss who will maintain full hours out of consideration for them needing the money would blow off one of the few jobs available pissed me off. The other thing is that everyone is scared, I am 64 and have a c*********d enough respiratory system that the idea of getting this worries the heck out of me. If I had my way Jeanne would close up shop for two or three weeks and take only emergencies.

Her compromise with me is that she did close it down to only sick and injured which is almost everything anyway, no routine wing and nail trims or wellness checks at this time, and they extended the appointment times so there would be extra time in between appointments, and people will wait in there cars versus the waiting room.

By Tuesday her employee had a change of mind and decided not to give up a job with no layoff or cut hours support. The other thing is there is no signs that things are slowing down much except for the slightly fewer appointments.
