God above, I think.
His 5 kids wouldn't help him, so I did.

I care for my wife and I can appreciate what you did. While she is not small, I can still move her. The hardest part is trying not to cause her any discomfort or pain when I move her. It doesn't always work and that hurts me knowing that I caused her discomfort. We're trying to get a lift to make it easier on both of us.

Yes, at the end he had a stroke and was paralyzed on the right side and couldn't talk.
His left hand got stronger and stronger.
He would grab my wrist and it hurt.
I'll always wonder what he wanted.
The dr. would say right in front of him, he only has a couple of days left.
He wasn't dead, he just couldn't talk.
I didn't have to pick him up from the floor anymore, but I had to keep him from pulling the catheter out.
I had a friend that had a 30 year old son that was extremely disabled.
She was on her own with him.
She got to the point she couldn't lift him anymore and some organization put a free lift in for her.
You might check in your area and sed see if they would do it for you.
God bless you and your wife.

I built a ramp on the front of the house two years ago to roll a wheelchair in and out after she broke her femur and knee. She was extremely ill a year ago and while she's recovered from that she no longer is able to stand. That's why I'm trying to find a hoyer lift. We found one that we've made an offer on but haven't heard back yet. I'm going to try to see if we could get something through insurance, but they are hard to get an answer out of.

Good luck with the insurance.
I was telling a guy that did work for me that I needed a ramp.
He said, I've got some plans for one.
I told him I wanted to see them.
That never happened.
He just came and built it and put a bill in my mailbox.
I was not happy.
He made it from particle board.
Then I told him I'm going out of town for 2 days and you can coat it with something after I leave so it will be dry when I get back.
He didn't wait. I had to go out and walk on the wet stuff.
It was 2 inches taller than my porch and 2 inches too high from the ground.
It did exactly what I thought it would.
I stepped off the porch onto it and it caved in.
I paid him and didn't use him again.
Then the next 2 stole from me and bugged me all the time for money.

I didn't go looking for someone to do it, I just did it myself. I tend to overbuild things, which is good because they tend not to break and bad when you need to tear something down.
The hoyer lift my wife found had a ridiculously low shipping cost. We heard back from the guy and he said the shipping cost was 16 times higher than what he estimated in his ad. Back to the ads again.

Sorry, I hope you find a lift with reasonable shipping.
Sometimes shipping is crazy.

Can one not be built locally?

Are there regulations that need to be followed?

The lift resembles an engine hoist. Its used to lift a person from the bed, chair, floor, etc without hurting the person and can be done by one person also without risk to the person doing the lifting.

My grandmother has one...

We also purchased it...

But I recall my uncle claiming he could build one... Just never got around to it

I'm not sure.
An organization here built one for my friend.
Her son was 30.
He couldn't walk, talk, or feed himself.
It was sad.

I could probably build one, but I would feel better buying one from a medical supply company. I would know that it had been engineered and tested and mostly likely has a long track record of usage.
