I think you don't know what you are talking about. Are you God who decides that Catholic is Cult? Are you smarter and higher than God? After confession, we are given penance as repentance of our sins.
Catholics ask forgiveness from God alone. The priest as practiced in the old tradition, helps pray for the sinner they represent to God.
James 5:16.
Why do Catholics confess their sins to a priest, rather than going directly to God?
Well, the quick answer is because that’s the way God wants us to do it. In James 5:16, God, through Sacred Scripture, commands us to “confess our sins to one another.” Notice, Scripture does not say confess your sins straight to God and only to God — it says confess your sins to one another.

You use James 5:16 to justify hiding in a dark closet and confessing to a man whose face can't be seen. The verse says "one to another", that's both ways , not just one way. How do you explain this verse?
1 Timothy 2:5 King James Version (KJV)
5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
What about purgatory? You know, the place you go after death for a long time...but if you have lots of money, you can shorten that time? That goes against EVERY teaching of Jesus.
Or this one...
John 14:6
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the t***h, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
Also...
Luke 11:1-2
11 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven
( Notice...he did not say seek help from a priest to pray.)
Radiance3, I like your posts and have commented on them a lot. I'm sorry to have caused you so much stress about your religion and I would have never done so unless it is was conviction the Holy Spirit...compelling me to tell what I believe based on many verses in the Bible. The Bible says study the word of God for wisdom, which I have done and will never stop doing. There are many more verses than what I quoted, but just look at the ones I presented with an open mind and see the wisdom that comes from God, not a priest.
