John 20:23 New International Version (NIV)
23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.” The Apostles were given by God the authority to forgive sins.

If you are not a Catholic, you can pray directly to God especially if you have mortal sins.

You are referring to the Roman Catholic Church...a cult. ANY religion where a man can forgive your sins is false. I'll get trashed for saying that but even their own Catholic Bible tells them the same thing. If you want to blame something on a 'real' Christian, you'll have to find one who has only salvation...not religion.
I agree that not all Muslims are terrorists, BUT...enough of them are to make the 'religion?' disturbing.

Another way why we confess to a priest.
Read John 20:22-23.
John 20:22-23 New International Version (NIV)
22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”

What evil things are you aware of. The Catechism are all guidelines based on the Scriptures.

The Catholic church is the church built by Christ.
Matthew 16:17-19

…17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by My Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Wh**ever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and wh**ever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

There is a Pope there at the Vatican, who they criticize all the time. I have heard that he is very liberal . I don't know anything about what they are talking about. My concentration is to Christ, follow the Scriptures, and love His people as he ordered. How did he get into there. It was reported he was planted there in 2013, by Obama and Hillary Clinton, and had Pope Benedict retired. I really don't know. I love the Catholic training, and I am grateful to have that. I wish children today have similar training that I got. Now, kids are mostly bizarre on their behavior. Most kids are so weird, especially in public schools. The ones raised in the Catholic schools are great.

I had a very good memory of Pope John Paul II. He is now a saint. Fact was he was a friend of president Reagan. President Reagan, Pope John Paul II, and PM Gorbachev, ended the cold war in 1991. President Reagan when he passed away in 2004, his funeral music was the "Ave Maria", a Catholic music. President Reagan was a Presbyterian.
This is what Catholics do.

Things like these. Like I said, these people are evil and not representative of Catholics. But the Church as an institution has been used by evil people to do evil things.

You as well, hope everything is stable where you are.

I wonder who are these evil people? I want to cry. Why do they do evil, I don't understand? I don't want to hurt anybody. We were taught to love people. I grew up that way. I must be sheltered too much, not knowing what is around me. But I do pray. The objective of the Catholic Church is to serve God, (Christ), and His people. We make mistakes, and I do, that is why we seek forgiveness from God or from one another, who we have hurt.

God bless, this is the time for our greatest need for unity, caring for each other. May God bless you and yours always.

Well, my belief is some people will use anything to get the power they want, and know how to take advantage of others.

I grew up that way as well, which is why it is shameful to me when people think that's who Christians are.

May God make his countenance to shine upon you and give you peace.

I think you don't know what you are talking about. Are you God who decides that Catholic is Cult? Are you smarter and higher than God? After confession, we are given penance as repentance of our sins.

Catholics ask forgiveness from God alone. The priest as practiced in the old tradition, helps pray for the sinner they represent to God.
James 5:16.
Why do Catholics confess their sins to a priest, rather than going directly to God?
Well, the quick answer is because that’s the way God wants us to do it. In James 5:16, God, through Sacred Scripture, commands us to “confess our sins to one another.” Notice, Scripture does not say confess your sins straight to God and only to God — it says confess your sins to one another.
============ br i I think you don't know what you... (show quote)

You use James 5:16 to justify hiding in a dark closet and confessing to a man whose face can't be seen. The verse says "one to another", that's both ways , not just one way. How do you explain this verse?

1 Timothy 2:5 King James Version (KJV)

5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

What about purgatory? You know, the place you go after death for a long time...but if you have lots of money, you can shorten that time? That goes against EVERY teaching of Jesus.

Or this one...

John 14:6

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the t***h, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

Also...

Luke 11:1-2

11 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven

( Notice...he did not say seek help from a priest to pray.)

Radiance3, I like your posts and have commented on them a lot. I'm sorry to have caused you so much stress about your religion and I would have never done so unless it is was conviction the Holy Spirit...compelling me to tell what I believe based on many verses in the Bible. The Bible says study the word of God for wisdom, which I have done and will never stop doing. There are many more verses than what I quoted, but just look at the ones I presented with an open mind and see the wisdom that comes from God, not a priest.

The disciples were sent out into the lands and performed miracles also. Jesus said you will do the works that I have done and greater! ( Not a quote) They also spoke and every man heard them in their own language. If your priest can do all these things, then I will resend my statement.
Please, understand, I am not trying to hurt you, but we have to look at the whole picture. Paul shook off a deadly viper into the fire but we don't see that today either.

Please, you have the liberty to believe what you believe. And I respect that. I am not worried about myself. So, please focus, spare all your attentions to yourself. God will judge me for what I do. And I think God loves you too. And I am happy and confident He loves me. Peace be with you.

I want to let you know my Catholic family are all good people. They love God and I am certain, they love you too. The purpose of our faith is to love and serve God, and to love one another as He asked us to do.
God bless America.

Radiance3, I was addressing Daredevil when all of this started, when he stated
Quote:
Yeah, I'm aware. In the same way that "Christians" and the "Church" murdered millions of innocents in the name of conversion.

I just get so weary of people saying "so called Christians", or " Christians" as if they have anything better to offer...and they don't...or like that Christians are dirty somehow.
You and I are guaranteed the right to choose our own religion and to practice it, AND the right to speak our minds. We have both exercised our first and second amendment the way it was meant to be, and I won't say another word. Before I clam up, I want to tell you that the love in my heart for YOU...prompted me to quote those Bible verses. I love you with the love of God and I hope you always remember that.

I say "so called Christians", sir, in reference to the kinds of people that were in the articles I sent to Radiance. I never claimed any issue with Christians, as, if you read my response to Radiance, I am one myself.

I never called Christians dirty, sir. Only the atrocities committed under their name.
