From the mouths of babes

So much wisdom seems to come from the mouths of babes and too often people just don't get the point. I just found this little tale at the end of an e-mail of pictures from China.

It reminds me of the little joke I recently saw about a little girl who saw such a beautiful thing as that and remarked that it's even more wonderful considering God did it all left handed.
Somebody asked why she thought He did it all left handed?
She answered, "Because the Bible says that Jesus sits on His right hand...."

I am thinking that many small children could come up with those words.

I agree. A story or two about my daughter.
When I was first married, we did not live in the best of neighborhoods in the Bronx; not horrible but not the best. When my daughter just turned four, my prospects had improved enough to move to this truly wonderful, privately owned by Met Life housing project. Green grass and plenty of trees. Safe and well-staffed playgrounds. Organized activities by a well-trained staff. Plenty of friends to make. Clean and safe. Paradise, in comparison.

One day a week before we moved I took my daughter to visit. I sat on a bench watching with joy while she played carefree with a dozen or more children. After maybe an hour she came back and said that she had made a friend. "That's wonderful," I said; "point them out." After maybe five minutes of her trying to single her new friend out, it became clear it was the only Black child on the monkey bars. I nearly cried. But later I actually did.

She had gotten tired and I was carrying her. I stopped for a moment and asked her how she liked this place we were moving to. She twisted far to the right and left looking around to the point I almost dropped her twice, trying, I guess, for an honest assessment. Then she got still and looked up. After a moment she looked me in the eyes and said, "Daddy, it's the same sun." I burst into tears.

What I heard and I still think she meant was, that as long as I am in your arms and you still hold me close, where we are does not matter, that love is all that matters. But she was that tender and thoughtful kind of child all her young life, to this day, in fact, that my interpretation seems accurate.

If only more of us could see through the eyes of a child. Good moral story, thanks.

That is soooo cute! I believe that we as parents and grandparents fail to ask our little ones how they perceive and understand things they're subjected to. Thanks oldroy, that was just toooo cute!

I have to wonder how many people here really understand that one. I about fell out of my chair when I read it.

I really think that the picture of the situation that little girl had was maybe very true. I like that story very much.
