A conversation with God
The innermost room of the Temple in Jerusalem, was the Holy of Holies, which contained the Ark of the Covenant, a golden coffer, holding the two stone tablets of the Law. The Hebrew word used for the Holy of Holies is dvir. This comes from the root דבר (DBR), meaning “to speak”. It is here that the High Priest spoke directly to God. This happened once a year on Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.
The power of the Hebrew word
The golden cover over the Ark of the Covenant was called כפרת kaporet (Ex. 25:17) in Hebrew, which comes from the same root KPR, giving us the word kippur, meaning “atonement.” Once the High Priest was inside the Holy of Holies, he would light incense to create a cloud that blocked his view of God’s divine presence. Then he would speak words of prayer before the kaporet and sprinkle sacrificial blood on it (Lev. 16:11-14).
Understand the purest meaning of the Bible
By purging the inner sanctum of any impurity once a year, the High Priest ensured that the people of Israel received atonement. This was done by speaking the words of God at the most sacred place – the place that held the Torah. Reading the Bible in the original Hebrew can also bring you closer to the original Word of God. Interesting suggestion, Bahmer, and one I would have considered a few years ago. At this stage of the game, I don't think I have time to re-invent the wheel and will probably leave it up to the professionals, with a few possible questions here and there. I have often wished I had spent more time studying Hebrew and Greek than some of the other elective courses although my studies were mainly in the area of Economics and Marketing. Thanks for the piece.

This is a great idea, Bahmer, but...I spent ten years in Holland and tried mightily to become fluent in Dutch, but the general use of English there let me slide by. I am simply not good at learning a new language at my age!

Never too old...
You'd be surprised how quickly you pick up a language with the proper motivation...
And you may find a language other than Dutch more to your liking... I studied French for ten years without picking it up... Then was fluent in Spanish after only two years.... Although I've lost most of it from disuse... Chinese only took me a year...
Cheers and good luck... Your English is excellent

Here we go again, Young man! LOL! I have problems remembering why I went from one room to the next! Much less trying to memorize a new language! I can’t even remember our Rock n Roll songs anymore!
Only a young person would have the audacity to say, Never too old! 😥😥😥😥😥😥😥
But my feet still remember how to dance!👍👍👍👍

Thanks for the comment! I also studied Latin for two years, Spanish for two years, and French in college for three years, all to no avail when actually trying to use them in country. The time difference from learning to use was over 10 or so years, which meant I lost most of the vocabularies. Had I lived in one of the romance nations I would have been better off!

I think you're right, Manning. I tried my college Spanish in Mexico several times but was only able to get across what I wanted with difficulty. My son in law was a missionary in Ecuador for several years and prior to going, he was sent to live with a family in Mexico for a year. That's been several years ago and he still speaks Spanish like a champ. Immersion into the culture is one sure way to make it happen. I wish I could have done that.
