The toe thumpers are relatives.

My family feels the same. None of us like having a sore toe thumped.

Also (and I see it all the time) younger poorer people don't get married so they (believe) they get more benefits. The family unit no longer eats meals together without their damn phones and their isn't much talk of a higher power that you owe everything to. Parents are either scared to "parent" or just don't want to. Quick example; A younger employee I work with was complaining that he finally gave in and got his nine year old an I Phone and he found all kinds of gangster rap and thug videos on it. He said he told his son NO more. I asked him if that worked and he said no. I said did you take his phone? He said he couldn't because it was his sons. I couldn't help myself, I said you are an i***t and the problem. He hasn't talked to me since. Which is O.K. because he usually wants to borrow money.
