what does ignore button do?

I have tried to ignore a couple of posters but it seems to have no effect. I just ignore them anyway.

It will prevent you from receiving PMs from them... But nothing else...
It's easy just to skip over those posters who offer little of substance... But be careful... Sometimes they surprise you...

Nothing. I've tried also, thinking that If I started to f**g trolls and they could not respond to my topics there would be some relief, but no....it doesn't work. I don't know what that ignore function means.
