The Japanese attacked Port Arthur in China on a Sunday morning. They knew that there would be more relaxed security at that time.
Admiral Kimmel and General Short were responsible for the security in Hawaii.
General Marshall and FDR had them move the fleet on sabotage alert which means that the fleet was moved into tight quarters so that a fewer number of troops can watch over them. If they had been on bombing alert the ships would be spread out over a greater distance.
Kimmel and Short told Gereral Marshall and FDR "ro avoid another Port Arthur." They were told to keep the status quo.
The sabotage order remained in affect. The ships were lined up like ducks in a row so if a bomb missed its target it would hit another ship.
Kimmel and Short wrote "The Final Secrets of Pearl Harbor." They became the scape goats and were found guilty. Their guilt was similar to the recent impeachment trial of President Trump.
Eventually Congress passed a bill stating that they were guilty because of secret documents and false prosecution and politics.
When I was in college I took ROTC and the instructor told the class we had to write a book report about WWII.
One student in class told everyone that stories I told about my father and my experiences in Japan I had made up.
The instructor told the class that mine would be "The Final Secrets of Pearl Harbor." He then told them I probably did not remember him, but in 1947 he was the commandant of Sugamago Prison and he had taken my mother, my twin David and me ito the prison and had our pictures taken in the cell with Tojo, who was the Hitler of Japan. He also told them that my father had done many things to help Japan recover after The War.
