A Wisconsin public school teacher was reportedly placed on leave this week after he allegedly called Rush Limbaugh's advanced cancer diagnosis "awesome" and said he hopes the radio host's death is painful.

"limbaugh absolutely should have to suffer from cancer. it's awesome that he's dying, and hopefully it is as quick as it is painful,” Travis Sarandos, who teaches in Milwaukee, allegedly tweeted Monday, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Limbaugh is a scumbag always has been and he will go to his grave a scumbag. He posted this on Twitter he did not state it to his class. Teachers do not give up their right to express themselves when they are off the clock. One can only hope his union has him reinstated with back pay and damages to teach the administration a needed lesson in civics.

Actually they do give up that right...as do many other professions.

And you need to learn what "freedom of speech" (aka 'expressing yourself') really means. If ignorance is bliss, you must be ecstatic.....

Wisconsin public schoolteachers work within a collective bargaining agreement that protects their rights when off the job. They bargained to get such protections in their contract to protect them from thin skinned snowflakes.

I agree... The opinions an individual expresses on his own time should not be subject to punitive measures..

Post your site - because you say it doesn't make it true - you are unreliable.

And if you think being concerned a teacher said what he did is a 'snowflake' attitude, you are a pretty pathetic person.

D you believe that a company can make rules that you must follow (as long as they are not illegal, of course)?

Certainly....

A private company can...

On company time...

I don't see it applying to this situation...

But many companies have rules that apply to your speech even when you are not on company time. Some of these are called 'moral clauses'. Others regarding use of the company name, etc. And others directly impact one touting their personal political or moral views publicly.

The concern with this fellow is the fact he is a teacher. A real concern is that if he is displaying this attitude publicly, what is he teaching/saying to impressionable young people?

If he is expressing his political views in such a manner in he classroom he should be terminated immediately...

But I find it hard to believe that a school board would object to him posting this on Twitter...

The school board answers to the citizens.

Again, the concern would be his influence over young children. A big part of being a teacher is, whether one likes it or not, being a role model.

I read something once that seems to me to be a good thing: If your students know your religious views or political views, you are not a good teacher.....

I had teachers who were both religious and political... They were excellent... Because they made sure that we knew they were just opinions and encouraged us to express and explain our own opinions...

This man's negativity online is a concern... But he shouldn't be judged for it professionally... If he expressed such views in the classroom it would be a different story...
