Hey folks new guy on the Plaza and not sure how this site works so I thought I would put one out there and see what happens.

My rant is simple. No matter what your status is Rep. or Dem, I think Nancy disrespected the office of the presidency with the tearing up of the speech right there for all to see on TV.

After many years providing service to our government I may not have agreed with our leaders at those times. But I respected that he was our leader. It is her work place and if you and I disrespected our boss would we have a job tomorrow?

Doesn't Nancy work for us? Nancy P You are Fired!!!!!

First, and most importantly, welcome to OPP! I am sure others are as happy as I am to welcome a new member. So, before someone steps on your enthusiasm, when you reply to someone...use the quote reply button. And second, there are some abrasive people who will say almost anything to bruise your feelings, ignore them or take them behind the shed your choice, but don't let them chase you away! Again, welcome.

Thanks folks for the welcoming. Some friends on another web sit put me on to this one and it is the same format as the other. So no problem with the operation of it.

In regards to being chased away. N F W that will happen I can hold my ground with the best of them.

Welcome,

Some will say she was justified in her actions. I say, regardless of how slighted she may feel, she should still conduct herself with dignity and respect the office of President even if she doesn't like the person currently occupying it. But then, that applies to most things. She looked childish from her behavior.

However, I would love to have that torn up copy of Trump's speech. It will someday be in the Smithsonian

Welcome Plumbob. We are neighbors. The sad reality is that, “We the people”, have ceded our Government to professional politicians who will do anything to stay at their feed trough. We were tired from working, just came home & turned on the TV heard what the media wanted us to hear, never held Representatives’ & Senators’ feet to the fire.

My wife & I had bought our first new TV in 15 years a few months before Obama started running for President. When he gave his ObamaCare speech, both of us having debated government healthcare in college, knew his $2,500.00 savings was b.s. as well as keep your doctor, keep your plan. When he was inaugurated, we put the TV back in the box it came in & put it in the attic above my shop. I just took it to recycling last Spring still in pristine box.

We started walking our patch for an hour a day unless it was raining, w/ our dogs, paying attention to small flowers we had ignored before & which insects preferred them, listening to birds, & picking up litter on the side of our patch that is along a paved road. If it was raining, we would read for an extra hour. We still have no TV, not even a radio anymore.

We subscribe to The Congressional Record, research things we are interested in & stay in contact w/ local, state, & federal elected officials. We campaign for those we believe will abide by their platform, do our best to get them defeated if they don’t, & tell them up front that will be the way it goes. If one tells us he/see had to go along to get along, they are toast.

We are rednecks, deplorables, inbreeds, wh**ever. We both worked our ways through college, had no loans, were the first in our families to get college educations. We had no time in college to demonstrate, boycott classes, even if we had agreed w/ anything going on. We were raised to respect all people, nature, the f**g, & God. We were taught manners, to say nothing about anyone if you could not say something good.

Yes we are 3 G people, “God, guns, grits”. We will share our faith if you ask us to, our food if you are hungry. In our case guns is a synonym for our protection devices. Come try to steal our Bibles, grits or protection devices by legislation, political whim, you have a problem on your hands.

You are going to experience an education in the highs & lows of humanity on this site. Buckle up.

D 44 i am looking forward to the educated highs and lows. I worked with some of the smartest people in their field and found that a lot of them are book smart, clueless, on sided, and down right common sense stupid.

Therefore i welcome a challenge and i may not know all there is to know about politics, but when i say something it comes from knowledge not out of my butt from hearsay.

Except for the TV part you mention, a lot of me is in your thread so Let them bring it on.

Thanks dtucker. Sometimes the most basic civility necessary for human interaction is destroyed in comments by people hiding behind the anonymity of technology. I miss the real interaction of front porch discussions between family and friends. They got heated at times, but never to the point of profane insults.

Using any one of the insults widely used today, attacking family members, back then, would cause a fight or k*****g. Politics were laid aside when it took full community effort to get crops planted or harvested, someone was hurt, a year of bad crops. There was no disaster relief except what the neighbors could give. A person’s word was their bond, no 20 pages of legalese only a lawyer could decipher & decipher in the interest of his client whether it was the t***h or not.

Saying yes mam, no sir, please, & thank you were so instilled me, I get odd looks at 71 years old when I say yes mam to a teenage cashier with three different colors of hair. I still stand up when a woman enters a room, offer my seat if none is available, would expect & deserve to have to sleep w/ our dogs if I failed to pull out my wife’s chair the few times we eat out, get looks about that too. We are a team living by simple, at least to us, respects we were raised with. There is no man’s job, woman’s job in our house. We both cook, clean, wash clothes, dishes, repair equipment, take of each other & the animals large & small. I can’t cook biscuits nearly as good as her’s. She can’t change a tractor tire as quickly as I can. She can commit us to any contract the same as I can. There is nothing we own separately. I have absolutely no use for a man cave. She has no use for a sewing room. We have a shop where she does fine engraving & sculpting in glass & metals while I am machining repair parts for old machines keeping them from being scrapped. I do rough cutting for her if she is sculpting. She checks my final dimensions & fit for me. We share success & failure together. We still have full time jobs. We donate what we make off our hobbies to local charities in addition to at least 10% of our net income as we always have.

We were born lucky, healthy, reasonably smart, raised to believe we owed God & our fellow humans less lucky for wh**ever reason. We have been successful, by no means rich. We could have put that 10% in retirement funds & been millionaires now. Happiness cannot be bought, only distraction. My Grandfather told me something that most people now will have no inkling what it means. He never called me by name or referred to me by name to others in the 12 years I shared with him. He said, “Boy, the most valuable lesson in life is to experience the difference between beans & rice, rice & beans. If you don’t figure that out real quick, your life will be miserable.” He was not talking to me about starving from physical hunger, he was giving me a gage to live by. My father told me, “There is only one person you have to sleep with.” It took me some time to figure that one out, he meant myself.

Thank you. We never had a TV until I was 16. By then I had my hands full working & going to school so I never got addicted. I am more comfortable reading even at my age, rather read than sleep.

Something you said really struck a chord with me; "Happiness cannot be bought, only distraction."
Too many younger people are so plugged into their devices that they don't have real human interaction anymore. It's not how many friends you have on Facebook that matters. It not how many possessions you have accumulated in life that matters. Success isn't how much money you make or the size of your home.

Technology develops faster than we can keep up with because human nature really doesn't like change; change that is rapidly accelerating. I think most people want the same things now that our ancestors wanted several generations ago. But many people in each successive generation didn't learn the lessons that our grandparents understood or taught to our generation.

I am fortunate to belong to a group of RV enthusiasts who gather one weekend each month. Everyone brings their children and grandchildren to the campouts. The kids are fantastic and everyone looks after each other. They don't spend all their time on electronic devices. They couldn't even if they tried. We have a large dinner together and usually have a campfire where everyone gathers around and discusses wh**ever is on their mind and getting to know each other better. The kids in the group learn to communicate with adults and adults don't talk down to the kids. This seems to be a dying activity with too many activities scheduled every minute. The kids have time to just be kids and daydream if they want or look at the clouds and imagine. These campouts are only one weekend per month, yet I know the kids are experiencing something few children get these days, they are building good memories that will last a lifetime, and they are learning sk**ls that we hope they will pass on to their own children. As a person who is childless, I really enjoy these weekends.
