Looking closely at some issues can lead to a false interpretation of the observations made. My State recently denied Medicaid and other assitance to approximately 175,000 people, after they failed to comply with new rules. Those rules involved online applications with a deadline, online job search reporting and other hoops. The rationale for these rules, as explained by the Legislature and Governor, is to encourage people to get off of public assistance.

I would be the first to applaud efforts to get folks up on their own two feet................if the efforts actually resulted in folks getting up on their own two feet. Simply looking at the number of people no longer receiving public assistance - gives a false impression that those people are doing better, that their lives have improved.

The majority of those removed from assistance live in rural areas where internet access is either non existent or sporadic, so a barrier is immediately evident. How do they make their required reporting, since it can ONLY be done online? In addition, many of these areas have very few employers, and those folks can't keep applying for the same 2 or 3 jobs, especially when their are no openings.

The Governor claims that there are 100's of jobs unfilled, so no one should require assistance. The reality is - those unfilled jobs are for SK**LED labor with specific sk**l sets - and NO ONE is making any attempt to train those 175,000 people to do the jobs that are available. So, those employers STILL have those jobs open, and those who have been denied assistance are up s**t creek.

Zooming out a little bit when looking at an issue, might just surprise the hell out of you.

Though I agree with you to an extent, your premise is that there isn't assistance to achieving what is required. To me you are saying that people are stupid and in this day and age unless a person is totally incapacitated mentally, they should know where to go to qualify and those who can't do for themselves, there is a caretaker. Libraries with computers are open to everyone. Mike

You're making excuses for not abiding by the rules.

What the hell do you expect 'us' to do other than listen to you whine ?

I am inclined to agree with Governor Hutchinson since I'm positive that his experience takes precedence over your bleeding heart liberal mindset.

I do understand however, that not everyone is capable of pulling themselves up by their own bootstraps.

But you razorbacks have always been a tough bunch of Americans.

I'm sure that if you put yer' heads together with your governor, you'll figure out a resolution to yer' problems.

Time to move to Bentonville and go to work for Walmart.

And the fact that they remained unsk**led and ignorant their entire life so that they haven't learned a new sk**l is whose fault? As my mother always said, "God helps those who help themselves." They continued to sit on their a$$es and live on the dole until push came to shove. Cry me a river.

They can always move to CA. Gov. Newsome is giving away everything to Homeless, I******s, Mentally ill, Drug abusers, and Malingerers. They may as well come and get benefits here while they still can as eventually this is unstainable and won't last forever.

Before you get your panties in a wad, recognize that there are people who genuinely need assistance and are deserving of assistance. And we have an obligation to help them. There are also many who just want someone to take care of them and the Democratic big-government administrative bureaucracy is more than happy to oblige so that these people will v**e for democrats. Eventually, the Democrats will eat themselves, when more people can v**e themselves benefits than there are people working to pay for those benefits. The Democrats will also run out of "disadvantaged groups" that they can pit against each other with their brand of identity politics and hyphenated Americans, promising to protect each group from the other groups. The Democrats are the cause of much of the d******eness in America.

Let's zoom out further. San Diego has homeless veterans. (the state has 47% of all homeless people in the USA). Many stand on corners panhandling with signs reading "Need Help; Homeless and unemployed." The County Social Services and Veterans Admin reports that there are 11,000 homeless vouchers for veterans in San Diego County that have gone unused. Why are they unused. Some would rather make money this way, some don't know about the vouchers, some are mentally ill, some suffer from alcoholism and drug abuse, some don't want to change how they live, some are suffering from a temporary setback and many other reasons. The bleeding heart liberals are the ones who compound the problem. The need the homeless to be visible to the public in order to pull on their heartstrings for more money to support their cottage industry and have political clout. There are many NGOs and faith-based organizations that do plenty to serve those in need and they do a much better and more efficient job than government bureaucrats. The Salvation Army, for example, does a great job and the people working for them are dedicated while receiving very low compensation. But because they are a Christian organization the secularist don't want to refer those in need, less they might get "brainwashed" with religion. They take the admonishment "separation of church and state' to the extreme.
