You seem to have forgotten that b****s weren't free nor were any minorities. The American you are talking about was still one governed by r****m, misogamy, and hatred for anyone who dared to think for themselves or didn't have white skin. This was the period of McCarthyism and hatred of any ideology that wasn't backward leaning RW conservatism. We saw one of our greatest heroes, Robert Oppenheimer, and a man who's work saved this country destroyed simply because he, along with a girlfriend attended a rally for the C*******t party while they were in college. That he, long ago moved onto different women and that he never again attended any c*******t function mattered not as he was destroyed for being a c*******t sympathizer by those who were governed through fear and ignorance and who they themselves had nothing to offer this country.

This might have been a wonderful time if you were a right-wing sympathizer but you could just as easily see your entire lifes work destroyed simply because of the hatred of those governed by the ignorance and fear that was sweeping through the country during that period and time.

Ok so now what ?
You still have to pick a side Peter... and in this camp we’re not interested in the continuing free for all or t***sformation away from the Founding Fathers creation and gifts.

Not gonna happen on my watch bro...

You just witnessed Mass coordination by m*****as in Virginia, now you’re going to see it happen again.

You or anyone else does not have the right, privilege, opportunity or collective to destroy what my ancestors built fought and died defending.

You need to go buy a new Brain Pan.

There was no insertion into academics--left-wing thought has always been the guiding force of our educational system--particularly our higher education system. As for electing "them" to office--look no further than FDR--here was a man who had no problem using the concept of socialism and if it worked fine, if it didn't, then he tried something else. No man tinkered with the structure of our society more than FDR.

The America of which you speak existed, to a large extent, only in your imagination.

Abuses in the 50's, yes, a land of unmitigated hatred and evil, Absolutely not!

McCarthy, by the way, was right, and records found and released decades ago by Russia after the Soviet Union dissolved, proved that was so.

https://humanevents.com/2014/08/15/bogie-and-bacall-and-hollywoods-c*******ts/

In a recent conversation with conservative philosopher (and educator) Christina Hoff Sommers, liberal, feminist (in the classic sense) college professor Camille Paglia reveals with blunt honesty and perceptive commentary that many of our current problems on the college campus really began in public elementary and secondary schools.

“It’s really started at the level of public school education. I’ve been teaching now for 46 years as a classroom teacher, and I have felt the slow devolution of the quality of public school education in the classroom.”

Paglia argues that the vast majority of today’s college students have no sense of history, no sense of geography, and no understanding of how things work or why they are the way they are.

“What has happened is these young people now getting to college have no sense of history – of any kind!

No sense of history.

No world geography.

No sense of the violence and the barbarities of history.

So, they think that the whole world has always been like this, a kind of nice, comfortable world where you can go to the store and get orange juice and milk, and you can turn on the water and the hot water comes out.

They have no sense wh**ever of the destruction, of the great civilizations that rose and fell, and so on – and how arrogant people get when they’re in a comfortable civilization.

They now have been taught to look around them to see defects in America – which is the freest country in the history of the world – and to feel that somehow America is the source of all evil in the universe, and it’s because they’ve never been exposed to the actual evil of the history of humanity.

They know nothing!”

A lot to consider. Someone once said that we revere the times of our youth because it was too long ago to remember the bad stuff. Were things really better in 1950? Some things definitely were and some were not.

I have often been chided for saying the way to the future is through the 1950s, not the 1960s. I still believe that to be true.

Having been born in the last year of Herbert Hoover's administration, I have a different take on the grand old days of the 1950's. And it wasn't lefties who changed things. They don't have the money to do that. I recall a time when a drunken senator would make unfounded accusations against folks he didn't like and ruin their careers, (until he got over arrogant and accused the US Army of being "c*******ts.") of a campaign against a professor here at the University of Vermont, who's only fault was that his grandparents had fled from the Bolsheviks and he had a Russian name. (The Burlington Free Press apologized for it's role in this, 50 years later.) I recall my senior year in High school with Nuclear bomb drills. We were to go into the hallways and sit down side by side, bend down and cover our heads. (The kids weren't fooled. We said that this would make it easier to scoop up our bodies with bulldozers.) I remember a real Republican President warning us to beware of the Military/Industrial complex. (We should have listened. It runs the country today.) I recall night shifts on the Pine Tree Line, watching the sweep on an OA-99 scope go 'round and 'round for hours, watching for Bisons and Badgers and Bears, or doing flight follows for B-47's north bound on "weather recon" flights. I recall a recession when I got off active duty which left me looking for a job for six months. Nostalgia is all very nice, but the 1950's were no picnic. This article is mostly nostalgic hogwash.

Yup. They said the same thing about my Irish ancestors in the late 19th century. I'm sure that my Mohawk ancestors said the same thing about my English ancestors in the 17th century. My wife's Swedish ancestors were denounced for taking jobs with the Vermont Marble Company, but the company couldn't find Vermont farm boys who wanted those jobs in the first place. My prediction is that in 50 years, many of the descendents of Muslim refugees will still have Muslim surnames in the male line, and some may still be Muslims, but others will be Catholics or Protestants or Deists or Agnostics or wh**ever, and be eligible for membership in the DAR. The same with Latinos. Remember, America has always been a melting pot. And also remember that a lot of these politicians work on the principle of "Be afraid! Be afraid! Give up your civil rights and I will save you!"

I still think you sound scared, but no matter. 2200 years ago, Polybius pointed out in his History of Rome, that Republics usually last about 10 generations or about 240 years before morphing into military dictatorships. We have had our 240 years and that bothers me a lot more than any fears of immigrants or socialists or progressives or wh**ever. here in Vermont, we are morphing into a democratic oligarchy. The democratic part is that I get to v**e for a representative in the legislature. The Oligarchic part is that the representative then v**es for bills that Mike Bloomberg pays him to v**e for. That worries me a lot more than immigrants.

Those are all valid points and I do agree, I’ve studied them for years... but the 2 Greatest Threats you face in your existence or that of your children, grandchildren are:

Muslim Scumbags
Illegal non assimilating 3rd world ignorant miscreants

The 3rd Greatest Threat you face which is funding the above is the Foreign Interest Criminal Organization operating as the Federal Services Corporation from 200 years ago which you still think is legitimate gov’t.

And down the rabbit hole we gooooooo.....

greenmountaineer,

The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) was founded in 1890 to preserve the memory and spirit of those who contributed to securing American independence. Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership.

At the present time, that goes back at least six generations.

In applying for DAR membership, women must document their lineage back to an ancestor who aided the cause of American independence. These efforts may come through military, civil or patriotic service and must occur during the period between 19 April 1775 (Battle of Lexington) and 26 November 1783 (withdrawal of British Troops from New York).

She must provide documentation tracing each generation through official records or verifiable statements of birth, marriage and death, as well as historical proof of the actual Revolutionary War service of her Patriot ancestor.

A complete list of accepted Revolutionary War service:

The National Society accepts service as follows:

Signers of the Declaration of Independence

Military Service, such as participation in:

Army and Navy of the Continental Establishment

State Navy

State and Local M*****a

Privateers

Military or Naval Service performed by French nationals in the American theater of war

Civil Service, under authority of Provisional or new State Governments:

State Officials

County and Town Officials (Town Clerk, Selectman, Juror, Town Treasurer, Judge, Sheriff, Constable, Jailer, Surveyor of Highways, Justice of the Peace, etc.)

Patriotic Service, which includes:

Members of the Continental Congress, State Conventions, and Assemblies

Membership in committees made necessary by the War, including service on committees which furthered the cause of the Colonies from April 1774, such as Committees of Correspondence, Inspection, and Safety, committees to care for soldier's families, etc.

Signer of Oath of Fidelity and Support, Oath of Allegiance, etc.

Members of the Boston Tea Party

Signers of Petitions acknowledge the right of the new provincial and/or state government to represent the people. In addition, the content and wording of the petition must clearly demonstrate loyalty to the cause of American independence. Petitions regarding religious issues do not qualify.

Defenders of Forts and Stations: Individuals who lived on the frontier, from the Great Northern Lakes to Georgia, who are documented as having actively defended the western frontiers against British forces and the Indian tribes that were their allies.

Doctors, nurses, and others rendering aid to the wounded (other than their immediate families)

Ministers who gave patriotic sermons and encouraged patriotic activity

Furnishing a substitute for military service

Prisoners of war or refugees from occupying forces

Prisoners on the British ship Old Jersey or other prison ships

Service in the Spanish Troops under Galvez or the Louisiana M*****a after 24 December 1776

Service performed by French nationals within the colonies or in Europe in support of the American cause

Those who rendered material aid, in Spanish America, by supplying cattle for Galvez's forces after 24 December 1776

Those who applied in Virginia for Certificates of Rights to land for settlement and those who were entitled to and were granted preemption rights

Those who took the Oath of Fidelity to the Commonwealth of Virginia from October 1779 to 26 November 1783

Those who rendered material aid and supported the cause of American Independence by furnishing supplies, with or without remuneration, loaning money and/or providing munitions. Some states enacted special tax laws to raise money for supplies. Payment of these “supply” taxes is considered patriotic service.

The National Society reserves the right to determine the acceptability of all service and proof thereof.

DAR volunteers in chapters throughout the country can provide guidance and assistance with the application process. Admission to membership in the National Society is through a chapter or as a Member-At-Large."

As you can see, having ancestors that came into the country fifty years ago, even if it is fifty years from now, will in no way, make anyone eligible for the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution).

They must prove their ancestors were here during the eight year period between 4/19/1775 (Battle of Lexington) and 11/26/1783 (British Troop withdrawal from New York).
