Chicago was bad too. Pretty much everywhere with a high black population.

There was the SDS, Black Panthers. etc. Nothing today really compares. Even the crime rates were much higher.

We lived within proximity then.

Maxine Waters' district as City Council later and then Congress. Some places seem to never get any better.

Tuck, Rose, Debeda, Byronglimish: Reading all of your recollections served as another painful reminder of the turbulent 60s. Myself and others serving in the jungles of Viet Nam often found ourselves wondering about what awaited us when we got home.

Amazing consistency in a liberal progressive district.

Now THAT is where hatred came out. I got into a good number of altercations when the same dips**ts that protested the war and "sending our boys to die" abused vets when they finally got home. Made me see red every time. Several of my friends didn't COME home. Many who went didn't choose it, but were drafted and did their duty. makes me mad thinking about it. Can't imagine how you guys must feel....

How anyone had the wherewithal to worry about what was happening in "The World" while in Vietnam, getting shot at or booby-trapped seems almost incomprehensible if it wasn't for R&R and letters, newspapers and entertainment from home. I never knew many grunts who wanted to be there. Glad you survived it, as best as you could. I also lost far too many friends there. It takes a real soldier to know the horrors of war abroad and why we don't want to get into them. We are still paying a high price for Vietnam.

On the other hand, George W. Bush was busy protecting the Texas coast from foreign invasion, and Trump had bone spurs. What was it that kept Clinton out, Rhodes Scholar and deferments? But we elected them. About 10 years ago we had the fewest number of veterans by percentage in Congress. Glad to see that this is changing, including women combat veterans. Senators, Congressmen, Secy of Defense, Cabinet members, POTUS and V-POTUS should have to send their sons and daughters first.

Let me say it if no one else has because I never heard it when I came home...WELCOME HOME!

If something doesn't change, we'll be enthralled in homespun theater of opposition, in a no trust predicament in this Republic.

We all love this most blessed nation, but have staunch opposite philosophy on how to secure or country for future generations.

I agree with you. I think the difference in the 60s is there were actual causes. Mainly civil rights (including for women) and the Vietnam war. Now it's just hatred and resistance.

Or maybe the acid was better and the pot more mellow in the 60’s?

The night he announced his intention to run, he came down the gold plated escalator of Trump Tower and made a comment that "the Mexicans are all rapists and drug dealers" -this was even before the nomination. In my opinion, that comment alone was enough to disqualify him from getting the nomination.

You lie like a dirty rug. If you were honest, you would admit that the President was speaking of just the criminals in the caravans.

You know, like MS13, your heroes.

Apologies... I'm chuckling... Not in a kind way...

Mexican isn't a race...

Neither is American...

Or Canadian...

Chinese isn't either...

Nor is French...

Nor are any of the other nationalities...

Apologies for the chuckling...

How many times must I tell you that your consistent name calling is juvenile and so unbecoming - you are beginning to bore me. Are you vying for a Trump award for being abrasive and just plain silly? If you were honest, you would admit that the f**e president did not clarify "criminals" -nor did he say MS13. Why do you guys always harp on MS13 while praising groups like the KKK? No need to answer -sane people already know.

Your president is a corrupt crook and a big phony. Even if he steals the e******n again, he will always be remembered as the sleazy, low-life, sexual d*****t that he proudly portrays himself to be....and he will always be the first US president to earn impeachment during his first term. not something to brag about. Just like that "impenetrable wall" that was knocked down by a gust of wind. sad.

If you support Trump (which you said you do) then you might as well support the KKK....same difference.

T***h is, it wouldn't surprise me if you were a full fledged, card carrying member and protégé of the Imperial Wizard himself....just saying, from what you post - it wouldn't be a surprise -no, not at all.
