Could be so we don't have to borrow a trillion a year like Trump has!
If the economy was so good why have we been borrowing money just saying

Since Ronald Reagan the Republicans have become the party of borrow and spend. Their inability to admit their governing policy (despite proof that deficits increase under Republicans and decrease under Democrats) also leads to their inability to comprehend that:

Tax and spend is now the conservative of the two governing parties. Borrow and spend is what used to be called a liberal orthodoxy. It has been Republican policy for 40 yrs. now to borrow and spend.

They are the 'liberals' they warned about. If the deficits were being invested (infrastructure updates, e.g.) or some other useful purpose they might not be a problem...no one really knows. Instead, the Republican deficits are used to subsidize the consumption of the already well off.

The Republican policies of borrow and spend have lead to a steady t***sfer of wealth from the middle to the upper classes. The average American working class stiff in the late 2010s has a real wage that is stuck in the 1970s level, despite being twice as productive as in the 1980s.

I'm happy to discuss tax and spend. It's the responsible thing to do. But I'm not about to be hornswoggled by some foolishness about how paying for what we buy is an evil c*******t plot by Democrats.

You bet I want to raise taxes. The deficit is exploding. But more than that, i would like to see a minimum tax on the fat cats who are not paying any tax, like Amazon. And what about the fancy acounting that puts corporate taxes in forign countries, like Ireland to avoid paying taxes here? I haven't heard about that lately.

Well, sure. And don't get me wrong....Democrats also like to borrow and spend. They do enable. It's painless in the here and now. But also, spending originates in Congress. Blaming Obama for a decades old trend doesn't fly.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divided_government_in_the_United_States

A look at some of the charts will show that the borrow and spend started when Republicans to control of Congress during the past 35 years. Both Clinton and Obama had one 2 year period when the opposition did not control Congress. During both Presidencies the deficit declined. Reagan, Bush, Bush, and Trump show deficit increases. Borrow and spending is a Republican policy, except when Democrats do it. Then its 'but what about the children?'. When Republicans do it...crickets.

Not Obama's fault....the game has been afoot for decades.

Correct-----NO one wants to admit that from either side. The Republicans have increased spending and budget overruns for years. The Tea Party "say" they wanted the budget balanced, but it only got worse.

Raising taxes is what Democrats do, and raising taxes is who Democrats are.

The more money they wrench from the taxpayer, the bigger the bureaucracies they can create, and it seems that most of these bureaucracies' reasons for existing is to figure out ways to spend wh**ever tax money is left over after their over-generous compensation.

It's a vicious circle.

That's interesting, since all middle class American households have enjoyed keeping significantly more of their money since the Trump Tax Cuts® and millions more are back to work after lengthy periods of unemployment and the average American is seeing better compensation and bonuses.

What island did you say you live on?

Doesn't compute----the amount of personal debt is still rising and the amount of personal savings is still declining. Should be the opposite.

what most are seeing is the government lower the tax withholding so you pay ch looks bigger but when you think your getting a refund you get a tax bill .
and when this bill expires for the middle class you wont have your deductions.
and no republican will ever v**e to continue this bill.
