isolationism.
isolationism. The doctrine that a nation should stay out of the disputes and affairs of other nations. The United States practiced a policy of isolationism until World War I and did not pursue an active international policy until after World War II.
Apparently some on OPP want to return to the policy of isolationism.

Impossible to do in today’s world as far as strict isolationism is concerned. Wanting not to play world policeman or put the rest of the world first is not IMO isolationist.

No one wants to return to isolationism..
But America needs to stop trying to police the world..
And the handouts have become ridiculous...
Like other nations, America should look to itself first
Wonder why liberals find this attitude so d********g? I mean as husband and father aren’t you supposed to put your family first? Not some family from Guatemala.

Don't hold it against me J, but I would never put you before my own family... And I wouldn't expect you to for the same...

What we need is moderation. There is no logical reason why Americans must live in the extremes, either isolating ourselves......................or getting in EVERYBODIE'S business.

That I agree with and your other post. I thought we had stopped being cop of the world, but it seems not.
We have combat troops in 7 countries not counting Germany, Japan and South Korea The US has counter terrorism ops in 40 countries.
I would prefer we went back to that policy. Our economy was second to NON !

It is difficult to be completely isolationist in the early 21st century. ICBM's, Internet, Nuclear subs that can torpedo cities with rockets, etc. make total isolationism impossible. Being cops to the world though, can get expensive.
I recall my grandmother saying back in the summer of 1939 that if Europeans went to war again, that we should stay out of it. She claimed that Wilson got us into WWI just to save the big banks who had loaned billions to France and Britain, and stood to lose that money if Germany defeated them. Isolationism was risky even in that era, as we discovered on December 7th, a couple of years later.
