To the average guy on the street, that is monopoly money; it is not real. They will only hear that the democrats want to raise taxes. Funny also, I think, is how revenue has increased following the Trump tax CUT.

Only Andrew Jackson has paid off the national debt and that caused a recession. He also destroyed the national bank. Every President since Jackson has added to the national debt. War and recessions cause the biggest rise in the debt. Obama inherited both war and a recession. Trump inherited a rising economy and a reducing war.

I disagree. Trump put the economy on the rise. Obama just spent, spent, spent.

On December 1, 2008, the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) declared that the United States entered a recession in December 2007, citing employment and production figures as well as the third quarter decline in GDP. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 679 points that same day.

How long did 2008 recession last?
18 months
This recent recession, having begun in December 2007, lasted 18 months. Until now the longest postwar recessions were those of 1973-5 and 1981-2, which each lasted 16 months.

Was there a recession in 2016?
Overall economic growth slowed but remained in positive territory. The national unemployment rate kept falling. ... The end of the mini-recession in the spring of 2016 created a capital spending rebound that began in mid-2016, and it has contributed to speedier growth since.
