Society, a functioning moral society, usually valued and respected the wisdom of their "hoary old fussbudgets" because there were always ignorant jackasses leading others into darkness. The fussbudgets represented stability. One of the indicators a society was turning in on itself and beginning to self destruct was when the fussbudgets sided with the jackasses. Other indicators were an increase in homosexuality and the destruction of the family including child and wife abuse.

Did he repeat her words or did he paraphrase with his own little twist in order to destroy her personally? The sickness of what he did aside--the rhetorical device is designed to destroy her credibility so that people won't believe anything she might say.
A look at what Trump just said about Schiff: He's a deranged human being, a very sick man, a maniac, AND he lies. Trumps rhetoric is to 'attack the messenger', nowhere in there did he make an attempt to attack the message. Why, because if he does he will lose the argument. This is why logical fallacies are a rhetorical device--if you can't win an argument in any other way you use fallacies to destroy the maker and deflect away from their argument.
And of course, you conservatives as dutiful puppets will repeat everything he says believing, with all your heart, that what he says is true. However, repeating logical fallacies is not thinking and is how the listener is manipulated into believing lies. And I know, you are told you are thinking for yourself and what you are told is true but a fallacy can be either true or false and if you don't think for yourselves you can never know which it is...
