Genesis chapter 32

Forward

In this chapter, Jacob and Esau meet again. Jacob is worried because when he left, Esau wanted to kill him. Mahanaim means two camps. Jacob will split his camps, that way if Esau attacks one, the other will escape.

Verse 1 - 3

,Jacob will make plans for meeting Esau, and pray for God’s protection. God has already sent angels. Pray like it depends on God, act like it depends on you.

Verse 4 - 23

Jacob shows too much fear of Esau. Besides his other plans, he will give Esau gifts of livestock. This is unnecessary because God sent angels, God hated Esau. But He promised to bless the children of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Esau came with 400 men.

Verse 24 - 28

Jacob wrestles an angel. With tears in his eyes he refuses to stop wrestling until he is blessed. Jacob’s name is changed to Israel. He prevailed with God and man. God is not afraid of you. He will lay hands if necessary.

Verse 29 - 32

In this age, everybody wants to be known by everybody. In God’s kingdom, some will get a name known by them alone.
