Or perhaps, demonic power is the power that elected Donald J Trump!

Donald Trump is one of the most divisive presidents in American history but Franklin Graham believes that a "demonic power" is behind the negativity.

The evangelist, whose father was the late Billy Graham, was asked by apologist Eric Metaxas what he thought was going on in the US during a YouTube interview.

Posing his question, Metaxas gave a hint at his own personal views on the situation.

"I mean it is a very bizarre situation, to be living in a country where some people seem to exist to undermine the president of the United States," Metaxas said.

Responding in agreement, Graham said there was "almost a demonic power" at work against Trump.

"It is a spiritual battle," Graham said.

He then praised Trump's handling of the US economy, which he said was "just screaming forward". He attributed this to Trump's tax policy.

"All of this is because Donald Trump said he was going to turn things around and make American great again. He cut taxes and that cutting added fuel to this economic engine that we're enjoying right now," he said.

The interview drew some criticism around the web, with the pair being accused of suggesting the 'demonic' was at work in everyone opposed to Trump.

Metaxas addressed the backlash on his Twitter page, but didn't back down from the suggestion that spiritual forces are at work in the opposition.

"No one called the people opposing Trump 'demonic'. There can be spiritual forces involved w/o the people themselves being 'demonic'!" he tweeted.

"And you can like a prez w/o agreeing w/everything he ever said or did. That's hardly 'worshiping' him as an idol. This is getting icky."

No demons required. This is a spiritual battle though. It is a battle for the spirit of America.

Stop blaming Trump and try to understand that at least half of this nation has made an unmitigated refusal to turn any further Left and is dedicated to turning back some of the so-called 'progress' made in the last 70 years.

The Marine Corps convinced me to be a pacifist. I have followed that course ever since my military service ended. I am now, sadly, at a point where I am willing to consider a different course, if it should come to that. That is not a veiled threat. It is an expression of the frustration that follows decades of watching the dismantling of something rare and beautiful. I have simply had enough.

I keep telling Blade Runner that Conservatism is a regressive ideology--an idea continually scoffs at--but that you proved in but a few short keystrokes so for that I want to thank you very much.

As for the course people want this country to follow they will get to choose that in just 11 very short months. If you don't like their choice that is completely up to you. I cemeteries are full of wannabe revolutionaries and I'm sure there is room for a few more...

And I keep telling you that conservativism IS NOT an ideology. Conservatism IS NOT regressive. Conservatism IS NOT based on "stuck on stupid".

Conservatives embrace progress only if the direction it takes is for the benefit, prosperity and growth of mankind. And, if you think progress means turning left and surrendering our faith, our values and our American principles of government to a socialist despotism, you are dead wrong.

That's a fair post. If you knew about the power of demons, you would not have written your first sentence.

There is no more power of demons than there is power of fairies or goblins, they are made up entities designed to frighten and control little kids and the feeble minded. The only power they have is the power you give the perpetrators of such rubbish over you.

And I keep telling you, you don't know what a political ideology is! It's your political philosophy for which you are partially describing above. As for conservatives accepting change when the direction it takes is beneficial--that's a crock. A conservative's willingness to accept change can only be measured in the slightest propensity towards something and even then the preference is status quo or to revert back to a time that you perceived things were better. It's like JW said--he wants to undo the last 70 years and I imagine if he were to get that wish he would then think going further back would be even better.

Trump's first motto was Make America Great AGAIN and now he wants to KEEP America Great. The first motto implies regression, back to a better time and the second motto implies a desire to maintain the status quo. Don't listen to me, listen to your president and your peeps. They are the ones who will tell you which direction your ideology wants to go.

As for surrendering your faith, values, and principles to a totalitarian government, you cons have instead glommed onto the first authoritarian MAN to come along. What's the difference in surrendering your values to a man instead of a government--either way you have given up your independence!

What Does ideology Mean?
Ideology has been in use in English since the end of the 18th century and is one of the few words whose coiner we can identify. The French writer A. L. C. Destutt de Tracy proposed it as a term to designate the “science of ideas,” and in that sense the word was quickly borrowed into English. Though ideology originated as a serious philosophical term, within a few decades it took on connotations of impracticality thanks to Napoleon, who used it in a derisive manner. Today, the word most often refers to “a systematic body of concepts,” especially those of a particular group or political party. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ideology

I am a Conservative but I am not a Republican. Some Republicans are conservatives. Some Democrats are conservatives.

I capitalize the word because I see it as an ideological approach to life and the capitalization indicates an association with others who share those same or similar ideas and ideals. You can argue that it is a political term and it can be used in that manner as can the term , 'Know Nothing" as in the Know Nothing Party of the 1850s.

Neither know nothing nor conservative need necessarily be imagined to be exclusively political terms or ideologies. Both carry non-ideological senses. The application of those terms depends entirely on the context in which they appear. You seem to see it only in a political context to which you have applied your own interpretations and subsequently opt to apply those to anyone with whom you disagree.

Blade runner appears to regard conservatism not as an ideology but as a lifestyle. He is entirely correct if that is his interpretation. He points that out by not capitalizing the word. Your obligation as a human being is to accept his terms for words he uses and not force your terms into his context.

I agree with him.

Socialist ideology is the servant of Satan, a force for evil. Half-truths, misrepresentations and the vilification of opponents were all acceptable for Hitler, Stalin & Mao. The same is true for the Democratic Party today.

To you, conservatism would be regressive since you leftists despise our conservative leaning founding fathers, our Constitution and our Judeo/Christian values. The real truth is that the progressive religion of the demorat party is in fact a regressive ideology that has been tried by many countries and has failed. We don't need more failure, we need more success. Go Trump, MAGA and KAG.

For almost a million years humans have blamed misfortune and calamities on evil spirits; even in 2019, some still do.
