Two top military officials, including the secretary of the Navy and a SEAL admiral, have threatened to resign or be fired if President Donald Trump goes ahead with his stated intent to reverse the military’s decision to dismiss and discipline Chief Petty Officer Edward Gallagher, who has been accused of war crimes, according to a report on Saturday in the New York Times.

The paper reported that the military is moving forward with disciplinary action against Gallagher even though Trump said in a tweet this week that the “Navy will NOT be taking away Warfighter and Navy Seal Eddie Gallagher’s Trident Pin.” Trump added, “This case was handled very badly from the beginning. Get back to business!”

Navy Secretary Richard V. Spencer, denied the report. “Contrary to popular belief, I am still here,” he said. “I did not threaten to resign. But let us just say we are here to talk about external threats, and Eddie Gallagher is not one of them.”

The Times also reported that military higher-ups are looking for a “face-saving compromise” with the president regarding the matter and are looking to convince Trump to change his mind.

Gallagher was accused of shooting and k*****g an unarmed Muslim girl and elderly man from a sniper position and unloading machine gun fire “indiscriminately” into neighborhoods. He also allegedly k**led a 15-year-old Islamic State fighter with a knife. Gallagher was convicted on only one charge, however: bringing discredit to the military by posing for a photo with the fighter’s dead corpse.

Rumi,

Ever been to war, ever had brains, guts, spewed over you, ever had a CO, dumb as a rock order you to do something stupid, ever been dropped out a plane in a country you had no approved reason to be there so you were on your own getting home with one of your favorite Presidents saying you did not exist, ever had any dealings w/CIA, ever had any dealings w/IRS?

Have you ever been starved, beaten, because you would not talk, been told your wife, children, would be k**led if you did not, ever been shot, ever tasted the copper penny in your mouth that lets you know you are hit hard before you have to move to someplace to see how bad you are hurt, crawled miles, bleeding w/ dogs on your trail in this country? Your idols put me through all of this and more.

I survived, or did I? When I read your postings & those of your ilk, I am sometimes ashamed of doing anything that may have contributed to any of you being alive.

Of course he hasn’t and he has no clue about those who have.

Nor does he care about them.

First, thank you for your service and I am truly sorry for what you endured. But you endured, admirable. I cannot begin to imagine the pain you suffered.

I have not been dropped out of a plane. Was not a prisoner of war but I am a vet and citizen of the United States. I had a cozy and safe job in Saigon in '68, something that troubled when I returned home and was treated as a hero. I was on a Track and Field scholarship at the University of Maryland and had a college deferment when I went down to the Selective Service Board and volunteered for the Draft.

There is a topic. If you just want to insult rather than discuss, perhaps you have earned that right.

You confuse your opinion with t***h as you often do.

I have and that does not make a difference on opinions. US Army draftee Dec 1, 1966 to Dec 2, 1968. I volunteered for the draft out of a college deferment. Lived the royal life as a star Track and Field athlete on a scholarship. And to say that I do not care about the men and women who sacrificed to protect this nation is the ugliest insult I ever got. You make me out to be some wanton animal of a sort I cannot comprehend because we disagree? Sad! And it hurts.

No you really don't have a clue unless you've been there done that. You are using this because you h**e Trump and don't give a crap about the men involved. Gallagher was acquitted on the serious charges.

Trump did the right thing in this case. The military is getting soft and PC.

You need to deal with the ball of h**e inside you. Only one cure for that.

Your just being treated like you treat others who disagree with you. How does it feel?

Okay, I will reflect on your admonishment ("the ball of h**e inside you"), which is what we are called to do by Christ. But I have a rebuke you need to hear: you deeply insulted me by saying I did not care for the lives lost or sacrifices made by our Armed Forces. That is a pure Trump response and not one I feel you would make with a cooler head.

No, you are using this case and you don't care about the ones involved. Look at your title. Even this topic.

Rose42, if you do not retract what you said about me not caring about our military, we are done. Go in peace.

In 71 wasn’t treated a hero, was spit on and trash thrown at us in LA airport. We were told by a security guard to hang out in the USO center until our flight was called. Soldier were not welcomed as heroes

I arrived on emergency leave from Nam at like 10 at night. I was broke, having been sent home the day before payday. I went to the Red Cross to get Taxi money at Laguardia Airport. A couple started smiling and snickering as I passed them. "Is there a problem?" I asked them. I think they were very stoned; my question made them practically convulse in laughter. I started to walk away then the women said, "How could you?" I asked her how could I what. She looked at her mate, laughed, and then asked "K**l babies?" The image of her is so clear. She looked rather ordinary in dress and somewhat cute. Got a little tongue-tied and said "I didn't." They burst into laughter and left. That's just '68.
