Government schools are known for their terrible learning environments and overall burden to taxpayers. As a result, parents have looked to other alternatives for advancing their children’s education.
Enter homeschooling.

According to an October report from EdChoice titled “2019 Schooling in America,” the number of parents who would opt for homeschooling are at an “all-time high.” In more concrete numbers, 15 percent of parents would prefer to home school their kids instead of putting them through other educational alternatives such as private, public, or charter schools. To put things in perspective, this figure was only 5 percent in 2012, demonstrating signs of considerable growth.

Parents cited “safety, drugs, violence, bullying, academics, curriculum, discipline, standard” as the reason for getting their children out of public schools. A solid majority of Americans, 56 percent, believe public education is going the wrong way. Only a third believe it is going in the right direction.

82 percent of children are enrolled in traditional government schools, while another 5 percent are attend government-funded charter schools.
Recent information from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) showed that the number of families homeschooling doubled between 1999 and 2016. The National Home Education Research Institute, argued that the government’s data may actually be underestimating the number of homeschooling families. Some states don’t track or register these families.
After analyzing 16 states from all four major regions of America, the NHERI found that home education increased by an average of 25 percent in those states between 2012 and 2016. In contrast, the school-age population in that period only grew by 2 percent.
“If the data from these states are representative of what happened in other states during those four years, then homeschooling is continuing to grow in both absolute numbers and as a portion of the overall school-age population,” NHERI observed. It estimated that approximately 2.5 million American children are being home-schooled.
In Virginia’s case, the number of homeschooled students increased by 20 percent in the last five years, according to a Virginia Department of Education report. Overall, homeschoolers represent 3 percent of Virginia’s student body in the present.

For liberty conservatives to have a solid future, they must be ready to promote alternative education methods like homeschooling. Public schools serve to indoctrinate and dumb down children on a massive scale. Additionally, the Left is generally in full control of the educational bureaucracy, which makes the system even more corrupt.

If we want to advance our freedoms and beat back the growth of government, rolling back public education is no longer optional.

WOW. And that makes you wonder how many more would homeschool if they possibly could, but are restrained by work schedules, etc.

So true. There are now so many realistic alternatives to the liberal public universities, as well. There are many internships available in many trades. You do have to do some foot work and find them, but there are good jobs looking for young men and women WITHOUT a 4 year degree in women's studies or how to grift the public.

Homeschooling is an excellent option for those who can afford the time...

Several alternatives for those with busy schedules...

Church schools... Often better run, with smaller classes (more time for individual students to interact with the teachers), and emphasis on encouraging successes rather than validating failures... And the added bonus of having God in the classroom...

Group/neighborhood homeschooling... Getting together with other families who have similar concerns and working out a rotating schedule... Or simply contributing to a fund so that one or two members can relinquish their jobs without suffering financially for it...

Our greatest resource.... Old is not broken... There are numerous retirees who would live to spend more time with their grandkids...Or who had careers in education and would enjoy continuing to practice... And think of all the experience they could bring to the classroom... Not to mention that they remember how to spank

Good post Catherine...

It got by me somehow... Glad I checked my buddy list

Trade schools are huge in Western Canada... Love the fact that my best friend, who took a journeymanship in carpentry, is now making more than my other best friend who has a masters in physics (and is still paying off his student loans)...

My sister's husband, George, has one of his master's in physics, ergo: he is a mathematician magician. When my niece 's son, Sean, was old enough, George taught him math. and my sister taught him to read and between his father and George, both of whom encouraged Sean to work with them while he was growing up, he is really smart, graduated from a public school, and already has three 'trades' as well as working for his dad and another contractor, and has dreams of starting his own construction business, He could operate heavy machinery before he was 15 (better than experienced adults) and build anything from scratch. But he was home schooled util he was about 12 and readily made the t***sition into regular school.

Some states are making it more difficult to homeschool. California is one.

He sounds great...

My sister's husband started his own plumbing company... it wasn't easy in the beginning.. Lots of sacrifices.. But it took off and now he employs a dozen regular guys and brings in six figures a year... Plus he is doing what he loves and is an active member in the community...

My aunt homeschooled her children until high school...Their father taught them carpentry, mechanics and animal husbandry... All five are university educated and capable of most household maintenance....

Their father (my uncle) was a teacher in an elementary school for forty years (and the principal for one...he h**ed it)... He has seen the decline in the school system first hand... All of his grandkids are homeschooled or in private church schools...

I had wondered how tolerant the Canadian government is toward homeschooling. Congrats on your extended family's dedication to their grandkid's education. Are they also in Canada?

Most of them.. The eldest daughter and middle son are in Spokane... Just across the border...

She is an oncologist and her husband runs their farm and handles their children's (rwo boys and two girls) education up to grade 9... They then go to a local church school...

The son is a software engineer who works from home... He is in charge of the education of their two sons as his wife is a stewardess and often away from home... She takes the boys on trips around the world on her holidays...

The eldest son is divorced and has no children... But is a music teacher in the elementary system, andowns numerous properties.. Including an apartment complex... He claims his day job is more of a hobby because he loves kids and music... He used to own an international kindergarten in Japan..

The second daughter has a degree in business management... Her and her husband have an auto body shop and a small hotel that are both doing well... She homeschooled her children (two boys and two girls) up to grade 6... then enrolled them in the church school run by the Alliance church...

The youngest boy has dual degrees in music and engineering.. He is working in the oilfield services in northern Alberta... They just had their first child a year ago... Lovely girl... His wife is completing her degree in education... They also intend to homeschool...

All of them send their children to the grandparents on holidays... And my aunt teaches piano and guitar to all of them...

Great family...

No... My mother was not close to them... She disapproved of their religious convictions... And they refused to support her during her divorce from my father...

Growing up I was rarely allowed to visit.. And always under supervision..

It is unfortunate... There were several times during my teenage years that I asked to go and live with them...

But we are all quite close now... Much to my mother's dismay... And my delight..
