When did "kee-ev" become "keeve?"

Just curious. My whole life it's been "kee-ev." In Fiddler on the Roof, it was "kee-ev."

Which is it??

The official policy of the US is to use the Ukrainian word and pronunciation Keeve as opposed than the Russian that we are more familiar with.

So in Ukraine it's pronounced "keeve?" When did our policy on that change?? Is there anything official we can refer to?

Shang is not "ang" as in sang, but "ung" as in sung...



(the English way sounds better in my opinion... But I'm biased )
