This was a statement made by Trump with respect to the impeachment inquiry at his latest rally. Doesn't Trump know that we are a Republic and not a Democracy? You can't "attack Democracy itself" when we are a Republic, can you?

Democrats have always said that a Republic is simply the form of Democracy that we use. It's you conservatives who insist that a Democracy and Republic are two separate things. Well are they or aren't they? That's all I want to know...

We are a democratic republic. We are both. A pure democracy means everyone v**es on every measure. Since we are so large we opted for a democratic republic and v**e for representatives that are supposed to v**e for the best interest of their state and its people. As usual, mostly D's have corrupted that process, they v**e for their personal power and financial interest not the people or state they represent.

Then you should have paid more attention in the third grade.

Trump is the attack on our republic. He has insulted and defamed every judge who has ruled against his unconstitutional behavior tearing at the legitimacy and independence of our judicial branch. He routinely refers to elected officials doing their duty as crooked if they dare cross him. He has put the fourth estate at risk around the world by joining tyrants and dictators with his false calls of “f**e news.” And he has used the power of the office for great personal gain and to extort other nations, not for the good of ours but to line his own pockets and push a personal agenda at the detriment of the nation he is supposed to protect.

Of course you can attack Democracy in a Republic. The Democrats are the Grand Masters of attacking Democracy. Democracies can be direct or indirect. In a direct Democracy the citizens v**e on every law and every rule directly. Rule by referendum.
In a Nation Under God, of 330 plus million that would get unworkable. Plus in a direct Democracy you do not generally get minority protections. From time to time radical elements can seize control of the majority and crush their enemies with it. We have a form of Indirect Democracy, called a Constitutional Republic. We elect our lawmakers and also have Constitutional Rules to protect political minorities from being crushed. It is refreshing how Democrats have rediscovered the virtues of the Constitution since they no longer have total power in Washington DC.
What Trump means about an attack on Democracy is, that he is the duly elected President of the US of A and was given a term of 4 years. By seeking to have him removed prior to serving his entire 4 years and using dirty secretive methods to do it, Democrats are indeed launching a devastating attack on Democracy.
Why Democrats cannot wait one year and remove President Trump from office in the Democratic Process, called an e******n, proves they do not believe in Democracy. It proves they do not trust their ability to convince the v**ers of their message.
Other ways Democrats attack Democracy is through v***r f***d, and by flooding the country with i******s in the hope that those i******s will v**e Democrat and dilute the v**es of American Citizens.

One can, when the Dems always claim we are a Democracy. I don't think I have ever heard one of the Dem candidates ever claim we are a Republic. They all seem to claim America is such a bad place to live and call this country r****t in all of it's forms and laws. There seems to me, to be nowhere they claim America to be good at anything. So-so sad!!

It seems you don't know much. We are a Democratic Republic.
