Even though I doubt the existence of a Supreme Being, I fully appreciate the Judeo-Christian basis of much Western Civilization laws and social mores. In fact, I accept government religious neutrality and not the strict 'wall of separation' so many liberals and the ACLU advocate. I support the right of students in public schools to create Christmas, Chanukah or other religious celebrations, as I don't see that as government sponsorship of religion. "Congress shall pass no law establishing religion, nor prohibit the free expression thereof" seems clear to me.
The late William F. Buckley once wrote that while you don't need to believe in God to be conservative, you do need to accept some type of moral transcendence, why I do.
I do see organized religion as a vital part of civil society without which there might be a vacuum replaced by something much less wholesome, such as intrusive government all over place.
You're right about excess affluence spoiling people.
The Liberal diet consists solely of huge helpings of, "pie in the sky," baked in Conservative bakeries.

I read his book. I thought he had a great legal mind and it's unfortunate Ted Kennedy orchestrated opposition to his nomination to sit on the Supreme Court. He created a scare that women would be forced to go to back alley a******nists.
I remember sheepishly asking my local librarian, 'Excuse me, do you have a book called "Slouching Towards Gomorrah" ' ?
