Liberals love their own free speech, but want to silence the free speech of those with whom they disagree.

Many very free capitalist nations in Western Europe prohibit some types of h**e speech, such as denial of the Holocaust or N**i slogans and imagery. They seem to be doing just fine with such restrictions. We already severely restrict speech and expression, nudity, sexuality and what is considered by prudes as profanity or pornography is tightly regulated.

Free speech does NOT mean consequence free. Yes, free speech must be protected, because when we allow government, educational institutions, corporations or any other entity to decide what may or may not be said, Socialism would be the LEAST of our worries. That being said, individuals ( and every other entity for that matter ) must be aware that there are consequences for what we say, just as there are for what we do, and be prepared to accept them.

There slander laws, libel laws, inciting r**ts and such, which apply consequences for malicious speech. Threatening to k**l someone or do physical harm to another, can see an individual charged with a crime. That means, that passing laws that apply consequences for h**e speech and/or for inciting, or attempting to incite, violence, are well within Constitutional strictures governing free speech.

You can say wh**ever you want...................................just be prepared to accept the consequences.

Because in Socialist country you can't express what you want to say,you have to agree with what government tell what you can and can't say !!! That's what gonna happen if we change 1st Amendment!!!

I'd have to question wh**ever poll came up with those figures, because they sound awfully like they came from some "progressive's" wish list.

Speaking as someone who has travelled to, lived in and has friends and close colleagues in numerous parts of America, I can vouch for most of our fellow citizens as people who value our freedom of speech and believe "political correctness" is a bad joke at best -- on more than a few occasions, I have found myself in conversations wherein multiple participants were doing just that -- joking about the "liberal" "language police."

As far as so-called "h**e speech" is concerned, most Americans, because the fine folks on the left have worn out the phrase by applying it to any utterance that disagrees with their doctrine, take the term with a grain of salt.

Actual r****t, ethnic or other slurs are self evident and, while not unconstitutional (yes, they are protected by the First Amendment) have no place in civilized dialogue, but rendering them illegal would set a precedent that could lead to a level of censorship by government fiat that no freedom loving person would want to be subjected to. Having lived in the Soviet Union, you would know that better than anyone else at OPP.

Unfortunately, the far left elements that have bought today's Democratic Party would be more than happy to see such a precedent set, because it would pave the way toward total censorship of conservative expression, which is the goal of the entire political correctness/speech policing policies they currently embrace.

I would very definitely look into the source of the poll you looked at, though. Polls are as often as not "conducted" with an eye toward a specific outcome.

That's because it's not a 'progressive' poll. There's a reason you saw it on Fox and Friends.

This is where the poll came from:
https://www.campaignforfreespeech.org/why-the-campaign-for-free-speech/

It just took a little digging...but I know it's easier to jump to biased conclusions.

I'd still like to see an actual sampling of who and where they polled.

Kevyn, you need a pornograph to play pornography.
