Uh...either Klondikes or Mop Buckets. I'm undecided.

Being a native Houstonian, the Astros are my obvious first pick. Since the Nationals have never been, they would be my other pick. I believe the baseball Cardinals have won more World Series than any team other than the Yankees.

I Never count the Yankees out, but I never bet on them either.

Been a Yankees fan since the Whitey Ford, Mickey Mantle, et al. years. It was important for the Yankees to steal the first game. At this point, 1-1, with Houston's starting pitching I'd say it's a toss-up. I'd just as soon root for Houston (always an AL fan) against whoever makes it in the NL. Also, Nolan Ryan is a hero of mine. The Texas Rangers really blew it when they broke with him. He's been instrumental in the Astro's resurgence. Real surprise was the Dodgers getting punked by the Nats, but considering they've taken 2 from St Louis in St Louis - it looks like they are on a mission.

No, I've lost touch with baseball, but I hope the Mets are in it. A bigger question is will any of us be around to see it? We probably will, that's why I've stopped reading Dave Hodges.

I spent many a hot New York summer Sunday afternoon in the bleachers at Yankee Stadium with my parents, brother and sister watching Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford, Yogi Berra, Gil MacDougald, Bill Skowron, Billy Martin & Bobby Richardson take apart visiting teams. I also always root for the AL team because I remember so many National League, especially obnoxious Dodger fans, say that the NL was so much better than the AL & that The Yankees couldn't play in the NL.

BASEBALL- 15 minutes of action packed excitement compacted into 3 hours.
I'll watch it anyway.

That's the common argument, but as one who played the game for a number of years, that's not the reality of the game - as you, no doubt, well know. But after most of us got promoted to Captain Sofa - I guess it can seem that way.

I was a Yankee fan from afar, but I think I've read autobiographies of most of the Yankees of that era and Whitey and Mickey were my heroes. I'll never forget hearing Mickey providing color for a game some years before his passing, and someone brought up the issue of money. I don't remember the exact words, but it went something like this:
Announcer: So Mickey, you see the contracts these guys are getting now. What do you think you'd be paid if you were playing today?
Mickey: Oh, around $600,000 a year.
Announcer (nearly choking): Mickey, you've got to be kidding me - only $600,000???
Mickey (deadpan): Well, you gotta remember, I'll be 63 in October.

T***h be known, football doesn't have more than 15-20 minutes of real action. It just seems like it does with all the replays at different angles among other things.

I'd like 600,000 even today.
