Seems to keep he did have a D next to his name for most of his adult life... Just the past decade or so that he has associated with the Republican Party

And how were we nice to him? Did you ever see him on Letterman? Dave would ridicule him and mock him endlessly. No one took him seriously but instead but he was seen as a buffoon and a talking fool. That's why he had to switch parties when he became serious about politics.
All he had to do was to mimic your talking points and a new conservative hero was born. He could never have accomplished that amongst Democrats because we saw him as a laughing stock already. Trump was a democrat for most of his life, he donated money to Hillary Clinton and other democrats and claimed on numerous occasions to be 100% pro choice. The thing to recognize is that the Democrats would never have nominated or elected him because he is a crooked buffoon. We had our chance and still wouldn’t touch him with a dung fork.
