Timing is going to mean everything here, a timeline of events and phone calls with others such as Putin, Trump apparently talked to Putin right square in the middle of this, and one other event that may be of significance is Trump withdrawing hundreds of millions of dollars in military aid and projects designed to defend allied countries against Putin.
Conversations Trump had with Putin are damned relevant, and could easily be a threat to national security if Trump had discussions about military aid that would be used against Russian aggression. Hey, and if you think I'm blowing smoke we can find out by the house intelligence committee having the full access they have a constitutional right to have.
The whistle blower report was done by the numbers, and if part of what is in it has to do with deals made with Putin it's fair game, there is no executive privilege or protection on the grounds of national security when the issue is the president being the threat to national security.
