Seems as if we Dems are not the only one concerned.. and very rightly so..

this is a post on Quora... and very timely..

Why is it controversial that Donald Trump asked the Ukranian president to investigate Biden?

It is a violation of federal law, and it is a felony, and the violation calls for five years in a federal penitentiary.

There is this very important law that states that no American can solicit any help from someone from outside of the United States (a foreign national) when it comes to any e******n. An American cannot accept any help — if it comes from outside of the United States, and it is e******n help. This law is not new, and the law makes sense.

It can be the guy running for mayor in your own town, or a person running for the President of the United States. You cannot ask a foreign person for money, to help in an e******n. You cannot ask them to run ads, on the TV, or on the Internet. Not if it is to help in any e******n in the United States. You cannot ask them to engage in spying on your e******n opponent, to try to dig up dirt. You cannot ask a foreigner for any help, or any aid, or any assistance — in any way — when it comes to any e******n in the United States of America. Not if it is a foreigner, or a foreign government.

You cannot ask them to conduct an investigation on an e******n opponent.

Because, that is “aiding” your e******n. Because, they are not Americans.

(Note — The United States has plenty of agencies which it uses to conduct investigations. You cannot try to deceive v**ers into who is conducting an investigation — the US, or some foreign government...)

The United States of America prefers that our e******ns be an internal matter — so that democracy is preserved. The United States of America prefers that its e******ns be conducted strictly by the United States of America. The United States does not want some other foreign government to be able to “control” our elected officials, or to be able to “blackmail” our elected officials, or to be able to literally run our own government as a sort of “puppet government…” — a government where the elected leader must always do as the the foreigner (a foreign government) demands.

It is an important law. Some would argue, it is one of the most important laws that there is.

Here is the law:

2 U.S.C. § 30121 - U.S. Code - Unannotated Title 52. V****g and E******ns § 30121. Contributions and donations by foreign nationals

52 U.S.C. § 30121 - U.S. Code Title 52. V****g and E******ns § 30121 | FindLaw

Trump confirms he discussed Biden with Ukraine as some Dems call for impeachment — CBS News.

In this case, there is also a secondary law that may have been broken. It has to do with the appearance that Donald Trump may have actually altered our foreign policy, to stop some money that was supposed to be paid to this foreign government — and then, told that foreign leader that the only way they could get the money would be if they investigated his own political opponent, in the next e******n. That appears to be the case, but we are still waiting to find that out for certain. For some reason, the payment to this foreign government was “halted” just a few days before these phone conversations. For no apparent reason. Coincidence? Then, after the phone conversations, Trump suddenly allowed the money to be t***sferred to the foreign government. IF that was related to the issue above — we now have about six new felonies… We do not have the transcripts of the phone calls yet, so we do not yet know.

Trump Ordered Aid to Ukraine Frozen Days Before Call With Its Leader

Why is the Trump-Ukraine whistleblower scandal so serious?
Seems as if we Dems are not the only one concerned... (show quote)

Two years after leaving office, Joe Biden couldn’t resist the temptation last year to brag to an audience of foreign policy specialists about the time as vice president that he strong-armed Ukraine into firing its top prosecutor.

In his own words, with video cameras rolling, Biden described how he threatened Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in March 2016 that the Obama administration would pull $1 billion in U.S. loan guarantees, sending the former Soviet republic toward insolvency, if it didn’t immediately fire Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin.

Biden said, "You’re not getting the billion. I’m leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired by then, you’re not getting the money,” Biden recalled telling Poroshenko. Then Biden bragged some more - he said “Well, son of a b***h, he got fired."

The prosecutor he got fired (Shokin) was leading a wide-ranging corruption probe into the natural gas firm Burisma Holdings that employed Biden’s younger son, H****r, as a board member.

So tell me, permafrost, is bribery OK with you? Trump has every right to investigate H****r B***n on behalf of the United States...and if it just so happens that Joe Biden profited from this incident, he should be charged with bribery (and it sure looks that way!), a crime with a punishment of up to 10 years in jail.

In fact, Joe should be charged with bribery whether he benefited or not.

I don't care what the other posters think. The fact that a damn phone call was made after aid was witheld and trump publically announced without evidence that Bidens son benifited from his ties to a corrupt Ukrainian official . It was no coincidence that aid was restored after the phone call. The fact that there is even an inquiry into this and other offences and now an impeachment inquiry should be a wake up call to all of us that something is very wrong.

Hahahahaha! How gullible you guys are.

You don't get that Trump just engaged in a bit of theater with the Ukrainian prez to get the Biden story in the bulls**t, poisonous-toadstool, punk, g*******t-propaganda-to-the-bone media!

They went for it like a hungry fish.

You haven't even begun to learn where this will go.

Can you tell me with certainty that congressionally approved aid to Ukraine was not held until Ukraine agreed to investigate Biden? Trump does admit he asked Ukraine about Biden.

And where did you get this "proof" that the information was second hand? And how about if transcripts of phone calls incriminate the president, and this is why Barr is jumping in to suppress evidence...because it hangs Trump? Quite frankly if that's the case it doesn't really matter nearly as much about the if the WB has the facts right. This isn't a trial, and it has different standards of actions. This is a matter of national security and if the intelligence community has the goods on trump they have the goods. He isn't going to get off on procedural technicalities, there are things the president can't do.
