Actually, Rose, I suspect that...like both my good friend Tom & I...you/we were taught to think for yourself by parents and elders as part of the maturation process of childhood and later, adolescence.

That's how it should be. There should be no reliance on schools to teach you to think - especially college. By then a foundation is already set.

IMO and I'm sticking to it.

Editted to change stinking to sticking! LOL!!!

Spellcheck is my enema. Change one letter and the whole post is urined....

Yes, that sounds stupid. But your first paragraph indicates that you can be just as stupid,

"Yup, eliminate institutions that teach people how to think and you can well eliminate the liberals that grow from that."

That is what are institutions have become, but they eliminate Conservative thought and speech and teaching, not liberals. They even disallow the ability to think. It is all liberal brainwashing. It is the Conservatives that are already being marginalized and kept from growing in all of these Liberal, C*******t, Socialist factories, creating minds of a robot without even artificial intelligence. Just hard wired Liberal Zombies, unable to come up with an original thought or concept, just following their pre programmed puppet masters in the Democrat Party.
Yes, that sounds stupid. But your first paragraph ... (show quote)
Yep, these institutions do not teach people how to think, they teach them what to think. The first teaches independent thought, the latter is brainwashing.

The Department of Education should be abolished entirely, government has no business controlling education, and eliminate federal student loans.

Conservative Christians fear education: Tennessee State Senator Kerry Roberts wants to “save America” by putting an end to higher education because it is a “liberal breeding ground.”

The Hill reports:

A Tennessee state GOP lawmaker has called for getting rid of the entire higher education system, asserting that such a move would “save America.”

State Sen. Kerry Roberts made the remarks while speaking on his conservative talk radio show. He addressed his problems with the higher education system while discussing a recent legislative hearing focused on a******n legislation.

Earlier this month, while speaking on his radio show, State Senator Roberts suggested putting an end to higher education in Tennessee, declaring:

… If there’s one thing that we can do to save America today, it is to get rid of our institutions of higher education right now, and cut the liberal breeding ground off! Good grief! The stupid stuff that our kids are being taught is absolutely ridiculous, and this is a woman who’s a product of higher education. She’s learned all of this stuff that flies in the face of what we stand for as a country!

And here we are as legislators paying for this garbage to be taught to our children, and we’re not doing anything about it. And all these red states across America, we let it exist, and it’s absolutely unbelievable. And this is the price that we pay: the murder of over half a million innocent lives every year, with people sitting there, justifying it to their last breath.

It’s no secret that conservative Christians want to keep people stupid. Once someone learns to think critically about the world, they often abandon religious superstition. It is something that conservative Christian parents often complain about, and worry about. The story is often repeated: “Good Christian” parents send their child to college, only for that child to learn to think critically, and abandon the ignorance and religious superstition of their parents.

As for Senator Roberts, according to his Senate biography, he received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Lipscomb University, a Christian college near Nashville, in 1983. Christian college. Yet despite his dubious college degree, Roberts frequently bashes higher education. For example:

However, in a pathetic attempt at damage control, Senator Roberts now wants everyone to know that he was just “joking” about putting an end to higher education.

There you have it, nothing to see here, just some ignorant conservative Christian bashing higher education in hopes of “owning the libs.”

Bottom line: Tennessee State Senator Kerry Roberts wants to “save America” by putting an end to higher education because it is a “liberal breeding ground.”
Yup, eliminate institutions that teach people how ... (show quote)

Well he’s right!!! Most of those college professors are Marxist, Socialist, G*******t, Pinko C****e, Liberals. And that’s a fact Jack!!!

Ending some of it should be easy, simply stop funding schools that WILL NOT set a kid up for real life, but give him debts instead. The colleges are really nothing more than indoctrination centers now. Ones that don't teach accurate history, c*****e c****e shouldn't be there.

I have never looked at their party association but at the crap coming out from the schools if you read the issues coming out from students and many are leaving some of the top universities because of issues they are up against at their present school. The biggest issue free speech many have found other student refuses to allow free speech and the professors and admit go along and some participate in this. This how I judge not from a piece written. But by proven reports, they also do not allow diverse speakers. Schools use the excuse it would cause problems. The cure get rid of the problems student should never be allowed to hold an administration hostage through violence but that is what their doing and that is what they are allowing

I can best judge the faculties of the universities from which my grandchildren graduated, Their experiences differ greatly from what many state or write about facilities of higher education. I am very proud of each of them, and pleased with their higher education experiences.

So you are saying higher education is not neccesary?---I took Land surveying and you don' learn that in High school. I became a Silviculturist (The science of growing trees) Through my working life I have been a Carpenter which I learned as a Union Apprentice. I've been a mill worker a logger a tree planter and a commercial fisherman and a professional Oyster shucker. I did not need college for those jobs but I had to pay attention and learn.

No thats not what I’m saying. I learned things in college that aren’t taught in high school. However there is a difference between being taught a sk**l and being taught to think. I’ve worked with many who have higher education - up to PhDs - that were not too bright outside their chosen field.

The genius writer and father of American literature, Mark Twain, was not educated beyond elementary school. He expressed cynicism toward the mediocre education system of this time in his quotes about education. He believed that schooling was different from education and learning. He warns us of the hazards of following the education system with blind faith.

"Training is everything. The peach was once a bitter almond; cauliflower is nothing but cabbage with a college education."

"The man who does not read books has no advantage over the man that can not read them."

"There is nothing training cannot do. Nothing is above its reach. It can turn bad morals to good; it can destroy bad principles and recreate good ones; it can lift men to 'angel ship.'"

"Every time you stop a school, you will have to build a jail. What you gain at one end you lose at the other. It's like feeding a dog on his own tail. It won't fatten the dog."

"It is noble to teach oneself, but still nobler to teach others - and less trouble."

"A man who carries a cat by the tail learns something he can learn in no other way."

"Thousands of geniuses live and die undiscovered - either by themselves or by others."

"Learning softeneth the heart and breedeth gentleness and charity."

"Education consists mainly of what we have unlearned."

"We have not the reverent feeling for the rainbow that a savage has because we know how it is made. We have lost as much as we gained by prying into that matter."

"God made the i***t for practice, and then He made the school board."

"I never let my schooling interfere with my education."

"Everything has its limit - iron ore cannot be educated into gold."

"All schools, all colleges, have two great functions: to confer, and to conceal valuable knowledge."

"The very ink with which all history is written is merely fluid prejudice."

"I don't give a damn for a man that can only spell a word one way."

"There are lies, damned lies, and statistics."

"Facts are stubborn, but statistics are more pliable."

"'Classic.' A book which people praise and don't read."

"I was gratified to be able to answer promptly, and I did. I said I didn't know."

"Why shouldn't t***h be stranger than fiction? Fiction, after all, has to make sense."

"Many public-school children seem to know only two dates - 1492 and 4th of July, and as a rule, they don't know what happened on either occasion."
