What is "low pay"? Who comprise this "record number"? What has changed since President Trump came to office? Finally, what's your point?

That is how it is under the GOP umbrella of TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMY. The Top 1 percent gets massive tax breaks, While the average Joe works for 10 Bucks an hour at the most. If your lucky You can find a job for bout 20 bucks and get taxed so much that you take home ten bucks a hr.
We need a third party before it gets like Europe here in the USA

Once again, facts? And you use the word "your" incorrectly. Are you "Socialist", or "Liberal"? Economic Despotism, possibly the characteristic of George Soros or The Rothschildes, is a horrible practice. But you haven't shown how the "Top 1 percent" are "hurting" others by 1. buying stock and investing in new businesses, 2. providing employment for people looking for a job, and 3. supporting an economy that is driving the Chinese Commuconomy into the dirt.
these people and corporations didn't get where they are by stealing from destitute inner-city poor. They did it largely by WORKING at low pay jobs, getting disgusted with where they were, and "moving out" to do better for themselves. Just ask Shaquille O'Neall, Bill Gates, J.P Morgan and millions of other "1-Percenters". If YOU start up a business and hire workers at a starting wage, pay them based on their merit and on time, have you committed a business sin? Please enlighten.

You mean, like a worker works full time at McDonald's, then part time at Burger King? Depending for a living on the kinds of jobs that were once part time employment for students?

You mean, like where a worker decides to make a career of an entry level job that for many would be a stepping stone, because he or she doesn't have the incentive to work a little beyond the basic job description or regular hours, learn as much as possible about the overall operation and expand his or her skills?

You mean, employers aren't subscribing to the ages-old rules of the marketplace and compensating employees according to their respective asset value?

I know quite a few workers who have benefitted from the tax cuts and several employers (people I know who run businesses) who have increased wages and benefits while expanding their businesses.

Point being, it's an employee's job to demonstrate that he or she is worth more money, and it's a worker's job to do whatever he or she needs to do to acquire needed skills.

Positions that traditionally pay the minimum wage were never meant to support families and individuals. They were meant, as I said, for students and others to earn extra spending money or to be used as stepping stones.

Life is like that.

Your assertions are unfounded. Would you preach that all snakes are to be killed because a guy in Florida was bitten on the mouth by a Cottonmouth when, drunk, he wanted his girlfriend to watch his macho snake kiss? WHAT is to prevent these double-jobbers from saying, "To HECK with this! I've got some good abilities and available low-cost training or education. I want to be a WELDER for $45/hr, or a kindergarten teacher for $50K/yr. I'm DOING IT"!? And you are TOTALLY correct -- they were never meant to support a family. Do you realize how many restaurants in San Francisco or Portland have closed because of the $15 minimum wage law? Or how many workers have been laid off because the employer couldn't maintain the new payroll? Check it out and get back to me.

We did get a third party it was called the tea party. Remember those people they were for a balanced budget and decreasing the deficit. Those are the people that gave us Trump.

Remember Tea Party, balanced budget, reduce the deficit= Trump (THAT SHOWS YOU SOUTHERN IGNORANCE AT ITS PEAK)

Exactly, Silent Hammer. fictionnotfact is just another knee jerk loonie lib here on OPP. When I read the heading on this thread, I knew it had to be posted by one of the the reliable lefties here: Kevyn, kemmer, Lonesome, etc who daily show their TDS by attacking any and all things Trump. Those guys are so predictable, even though their arguments always have holes big enough to drive a semi truck through, as other responders here have already proven.

The concept of minimum wage is a killer of “personal incentive” and desire to improve ones skills and productive capacity. As a kid, I worked as a newspaper boy, grocery store packer, stock boy, cashier, door manufacturer, metal & oil separator, glue factory helper, state hospital orderly, orderly in a mentally challenged school for children. All wages varied with some of the most difficult jobs paying the least.

The companies with their different wage scales could afford to offer a much larger variety of services which were profitable. If a minimum wage had been enforced, I and many others would have been placed at a distinct economic disadvantage. Instead of learning new skills, a strong work ethic, a desire to improve, I would have probably succumbed to being a “couch potato.”

A minimum wage will cause many businesses to fail, many needed services to vanish, and eliminate many startup jobs that provide the skills and work ethics needed for one to climb the economic ladder to become self sufficient.

And yet there are 45 out of 50 states that have minimum wage laws, plus the current federal minimum wage law.

And you think that you are smarter than all of the governors and legislators in both red and blue states?

No wonder normal people laugh at the absolute ignorance of connies and their regressive thought process

A $15 minimum wage is a low end job killer and would prevent many of our young people the ability to get a starter job. Young people competing for minimum wage jobs would lose out to those with more skills or who are more mature. Companies who pay these high wages would choose experienced over those who would be willing to train for the job.

First, what difference does "your" "you're" make to the points being made? The point that the progressive tax system is an equalizer is more correct than incorrect. The 9 to 5 hourly working stiff was never meant to become independently wealthy. The tax system helps to keep it that way.

A piece, a few days ago, pointed out the fallacy of people finding better-paying jobs and the percentage of wage increases. The folks finding newly created jobs already had one or two parttime jobs, and the wage increases were an average that included high-income wage earners including corporate CEO's.

So, if high incomes create a wage increase of a mear 3%, when factoring in the type of wages a corporate CEO earns, what percentage of the 3% do ya imagine those in the 9 to 5 workforce are receiving?

Anybody with common sense is smarter than a career politician.

As for those minimum wage laws, states enacting the $15.00 deal also see a lot of small businesses going under.

In NY, the minimum wage increase actually shut down AOC's old employer.

Go figure.
