why not dyed in Los Angeles? How can it be cheaper minus the cost of round trip world-to-world vessel import? Sheesh.

We need to start mfgr clothes again using American Apparel model. Get a bunch of those together and put it in Penney's or their own shop called . call it Poly shopping.

A shirt that costs 2.35 a yard pueced out and sewn costs seven dollars for labor. Dollar for t***sportation. That shirt comes out at maybe 12.50 generously allowing for cost.

But it retails for $38 in stores.

Pricing and mfgr models need to come down. You can find sk**led textile labor in Los Angeles same day workroom filled. No need to moan about bloated costs if you don't have a corporate layer of managers driving BMWs.

The first American manufacturer to do it will be a hero and a example and a standard.

I would suggest we manufacture our own products and buy our own products. China's cheap products are all dumped into the US, making us their market for their junks. And if people prefer buying Chinese goods, our economy will tank eventually, US will be their market. While we could not sell our own. Our people will lose jobs. Recession could happen.

When Chinese tourists come to America and do their shopping, they bend over backwards (figuratively, of course, otherwise they'd present a rather bizarre spectacle) looking for "Made in USA," which makes a statement all its own.

They come to America to deliver their babies. China has a 1 child policy due to the over-population of 1.4 billion. So they come to America. There are now so many of them here. Many are good though. China and most Asian kids are smart.

I was referring to tourists who come for a few days and go home, not the ones who "ride the snake," coming in via triads' human trafficking aparat.

Japan and then China have been stealing factory jobs from America since the 1970s. That's because they pay their workers 25 cents on the dollar compared with America's union wages. America's factories have collapsed as a result. At the beginning of the 20th century, Bethlehem Steel was the largest steel producer in the world. They are now bankrupt, thanks to Japanese steel dumping. US Steel, the world's second largest steel producer, stayed afloat by buying Marathon Oil decades ago. America's auto industry was also decimated by imports. America imports 75 Japanese cars for every ONE American car shipped to Japan. Detroit was once a thriving city, thanks to auto manufacturing. It now has one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation. China got into the act years later, but now dumps ship loads of cheap junk on our shores. Walmart is loaded primarily with Chinese goods. Those goods were once "made in America". China not only puts tariffs on American goods, they outright BAN many American goods. America's trade balance with China is nearly 5 to 1 in favor of China. The only two items that trade well to China are food and pharmaceuticals. This means that China has very little leverage in a tariff battle. They have no choice but to cave in to US demands on trade.

Adding tariffs on imported goods naturally increases the prices of goods, but it paves the way for sale of more American-made goods. And those sales gains result in more factory production here at home and more jobs for America's middle-class workers. For all those who are huffing and puffing about higher prices, I say "shame on you" for not caring about jobs for American workers. You are truly selfish!

The definition of socialism is "production according ability, consumption according to need."
In other words take value (money, goods)from one person who can produce, and give that value (money, goods) to someone who cannot produce (because he does not have a job) but is in need of the money or goods.

So what I hear you saying is it's OK to charge me $1000 so that someone who is not producing could possibly (not necessarily will) produce.

Sounds to me like you are proposing a socialistic principle to solve an economic problem that the free market of capitalism is not able to solve (provide a job for the needy person).

One of the few phrases I never hear pure capitalists use is "shame on you for not be willing to give your money so that someone else can work." If I choose to give my money so that someone can have a job, it is called charity. If I am compelled to pay this money through taxes (and tariffs are taxes) so that someone can have a job, it is called socialism. Even an economist should be able to admit that it is the market's job to provide jobs, not the tax payer who is compelled to pay more because of government intervention.

Senator Graham is right. We must endure a little pain to push the tariffs to fix the trade imbalance.

For so many years China had taken advantage over the US on the trade imbalance, and the intellectual property. The prior administration over looked it, denied the problems exist. Or perhaps they didn't know how to fix it. But president Trump knows how. And that is what he is doing now. Put up the tariffs.

Due to trade imbalance, every year China amassed about $650 billion for almost 30 years. This was how China got wealthy almost over taking the US GDP for a brief period. US GDP $21 trillion at present, while China GDP $15 trillion. China is second most advanced next to the US while Japan is 3rd. How did China got so fast? Due to the taking advantage of the trade with the US, and stealing of our intellectual properties.

Corporations and all kinds of businesses must put up a little cost of their budget to correct these problems. This is a crisis. If not corrected, we many not be able to restore our economic status over China.

Corporations can create business alternatives, or planning incentives to create more revenue until we are able to balance our trade with China. We must take a little of our budget to spend more, buy all US made products for higher quality rather than buying the cheap China products made of cheap labor and inferior materials.

We must understand that these actions are essential for the sake of restoring back our status for a balanced trade with China. Unless corrected, we will never be able to catch up with China.

Show more patriotism to our own country. Rewards will come later after we have fixed these problems.

Radiance3 . . . God Bless you for posting such an eloquent, reasonable description of exactly what has been going on for decades. China manipulates their currency--always at the determent of the USA or whoever they are trading with. It is high time to stop this crap. I don't purchase Chinese made goods . . . unless it is Chinese food at an American Chinese Restaurant. I don't want their good, cheap, inferior, and in some cases made of materials that can be detrimental to one's health. Just look at the instance where they were selling "dog food" that contained some poisonous chemical--and the beloved pet's of numerous American families died as a result. Do you really think that the Chinese give a damn? I don't think so. People need to start thinking of what's best for this nation--not what's best for the country of China, and their people.

With that said, why does it matter if we have a trade imbalance? We are at full employment so China isn't hurting us in that area so why do we need China to buy from us what we buy from them? Where are we going to find the labor to build the goods and services that you are talking about?

You whinny lefties constantly complain about not having a middle class. And you always find a way to blame Conservatives. Well, the t***h is that America's middle class has been decimated by unfair competition from Japan and China. But now that Trump is rebuilding America's middle class, you say, so what, it doesn't matter. You need to pick a story and stick to it, F*****t Pete.

Oh, that's right; it doesn't matter what great things Trump does, they are always wrong, because "Orange Man Bad".

It's just a few pennies to save us millions of dollars. It's a shakeup for sure, but when it settles down, America will be in very good shape. But it won't happen unless we re-elect Trump. My opinion.

So t***handlies, how do you feel about unions? You whinny l*****ts always complain about Conservatives not supporting unions. You demand that American wages be held unnaturally high, under union contract. Unions pay an enormous share of campaign contributions to the DNC and Democrat candidates. And a large portion of Democrat e*****rs in the General E******n are members of the Teacher's Union. THAT is not capitalism allowing wages to find a sustainable level. And it contributes greatly to the wage differences with China and Japan. Now suddenly you are all gung ho for Capitalism and berate me for seeking a solution to the tremendous trade imbalance with China. You need to find a story and stick with it. Are you a Capitalist or a socialist? You are as bad as F*****t Pete, changing your tune to fit the narrative.

I am happy to pay more for an American-made product that is of higher quality. But American factories have been driven out of business by low-cost imports. So I have no choice but to buy imported junk. I am thrilled that Trump's tariffs are reopening American factories. And workers who have new jobs are happy too. You can twist it any way you want if it makes you feel better. But we know the t***h.

By the way, why do American factories go overseas? Perhaps because their management prefers lower cost labor and takes them outside the US. Yes, US manufacturing is up. You think that is because of Trump's tariffs?

Yes ….. factory jobs are up because of Trump's tariffs PLUS Trump's lower corporate tax rates PLUS Trump's elimination of hundreds of onerous and pointless EPA regulations. Business and America's middle class workers are the winners. America is truly becoming great again after decades of mismanagement in economic issues and foreign relations.

Not according to pew research:https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2018/08/07/for-most-us-workers-real-wages-have-barely-budged-for-decades/ who says:

"But despite the strong labor market, wage growth has lagged economists’ expectations. In fact, despite some ups and downs over the past several decades, today’s real average wage (that is, the wage after accounting for inflation) has about the same purchasing power it did 40 years ago. And what wage gains there have been have mostly flowed to the highest-paid tier of workers."

MAGA=>"Again." Exactly what period of time are you referring to when things were "great" for working men and women?
