I said it was America's fault? Must be your conservative guilt trip flaring up...

I inferred that from this, " Now what's going on is that Brazilian farmers are using fire to clear their lands and being good conservatives who feel no obligation but to themselves, " and also this

"
So should Trump as your president and your representative to the world be sticking his nose into what all good Capitalists call for a free-market solution? Of course, me, as a red-blooded socialist am simply going to use this as one more example of how free-market Capitalism can't provide answers for all of our problem. There was a time when we could slash and burn with no one accountable to anyone but those days passed centuries ago--even though you cons as slow to catch on to the fact that we, as a country, have responsibilities to the rest of the world and they have responsibilities to us.

So what do you think? Should we, the US, offer help to Brazil even though with no one to stop their farmers they will simply do it again as fire is the most economical way for them to clear their lands. "

Why shouldn't Brazil develop their country? The last time I looked around, our country was pretty well developed. We harvested a lot of trees and cleared a lot of land on our way west. That 20 percent stuff is just propaganda.

The ABC evening news showed an American aircraft spraying water on a fire in South America (can't remember where, but it was not Brazil). A larger aircraft was getting ready to join the fight.

We could try "carpet bombing" to blast fire breaks downwind from the fires?

Put out the fires, and the fire starters, at the same time?

I concede your point about our debt, but right now the entire civilized world is throwing their money at us. They are hungry to buy our debt to get perhaps 2 % yield. Again I wish we would stop our crazy spending, however we should let the world buy our debt at such ridiculously low rates. Investors worry about the inverted yield curve. That normally signals a looming recession. However, it is a function of how bad things are everywhere else except here.

Negative interest rates overseas are pushing money to us.

I remember reading in grammar school about those nasty old farmers burning down the forest in Brazil and that was over 60 years ago! You all have fun now you hear.......
