Lots of ways to start camp fires without matches.

Remind me not to take you along if the time comes where we have to rough it to survive. You'd be the helpless, whining and complaining dude who quickly gets on everybody's nerves, and then... Well, the gators gotta eat, too... 😁

I grew up with Native Americans, they know some neat tricks. From the old days, ya know, before matches and gas torches and magnifying glasses and magnesium bars. The bow drill will do the job, but it takes some elbow grease. You can fashion a pump fire drill, but that too takes some work. The fire plough is my preferred method, it works with wet wood, creates its own tinder, and though it requires some effort, it never fails. Even when everything is wet, or covered with snow, dry wood and tinder can be found if you know where to look.

Someday, after we have mastered the winds, the waves, the tides, and gravity, we will harness for God the energies of Love; and for the second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered Fire.

I've got a large plastic zip lock baggie with at least 50 Bic lighters & a half dozen cases of sterno's on my boat just in case both gensets & the inverter go down & the propane grill on the flybridge runs out... we eat well every day... the ocean even has free fish... you should check it out... raw tuna is delicious also...

I'm a former USCG boatswain's mate, and I've been living aboard a sailboat for over a year -- I am completely familiar with the advantages it would present in survival circumstances -- however, you didn't mention the boat part, only languishing in a cave with a full stomach, armed with a BIC.

Yep, roughing in the wilderness or at sea is a challenge, it builds character, self-reliance, confidence, self-awareness and muscle, puts one in touch with the best attributes of man.

Had more than enough survival training in my youth... I can even do water desalination land or sea with the gear in my back pack... I can hunt with a sharpen stick if I had to but I'd rather a 30.06... seems more probable people will be the problem not gators ...
