Tariffs announced on a Monday do not affect the economy on Tuesday, in fact they don't even result in anyone paying a tariff for weeks and don't actually affect the economy for months. A Federal Reserve, however, announcing a quarter % lowering of interest rates instead of the half % expected and stating that would be the last lowering in a while instead of the expected continuing lowering over the next year can and did tank the stock market the next day. Despite optimism that the Federal Reserve didn't really mean what it said, the doubling down by the Federal Reserve on their shortsighted statements continues to negatively affect the stock market.
