With all this "gun control" talk, I haven't heard one politician say how they plan to take guns from criminals, just law abiding citizens!

They aren't afraid of criminals taking the money and power they are accumulating. Those low level criminals spread drugs and help control the masses along with a criminal press. They are afraid of the good citizens who will protect themselves from the so called powers of the rich and unfairly elected and maybe take back America for those that are real Americans at heart and in spirit

Could be because they don't know where to find them all.
Registration is just the first step to confiscation.

Background checks of private sales would not have prevented these last two incidents.

Yes, luckily they could never do it. But you'd think there would be something they might at least mention about stopping the bad guys from having guns, wouldn't you??

Well, they must have expected good guys not to have their right infringed, so they would be there to stop them.

Gun control is a joke. Here's a parallel scenario played out in real life: prohibition.

There was more booze consumed during prohibition than before the ban, leading to a 300% increase in alcoholism. Prohibition created more profit for criminal enterprises than all other criminal activities combined, and created many new millionaires including the Kennedy family.

Good point

...and I am to assume that a new law decreeing such activities would have prevented anything from changing?

I don't think there is a law that can be made for a lack of overall morals in a society.
