States refuse to report millions of "Prohibited Persons" to NICS.

The FBI lists 11 categories that should keep offenders from buying weapons including committing
any felony, being adjudicated for mental illness or having a drug conviction.

The NICS system requires state and local agencies as well as the military to accurately report
criminal history and other information. But for years, they have failed to upload these critical
records with no consequences for failing to follow federal law.

Enter the SCOTUS: The requirement that states upload this information constitutes an
"Unfunded Mandate", and thus cannot be enforced.

Congress responds: If your going to be that way, just forget it, we did!

You are going to spend the money one way or another. You are either going to hire
the manpower to enforce the laws on the books or you are going to buy body bags.

The NRA has estimated seven million offenders are not in the system.
The group supports better enforcement of the NICS system reporting requirements.

I believe that states have certain Constitutional rights to govern their own states, but this is a situation that must be decided by the Federal Government and no state, no city can go against these laws without penalty. The entire nation has risks here.

The relevant fact is, that congress refuses to fund the states expense, in providing the information.

The relevant fact is, that states refuse to provide the information, without re-compensation of costs.

The relevant fact is, that the states and congress have reached a mutual consensus:

They really just don't give a $hit.

Lonewolf: Your positive endorsement of my post is appreciated.

The NRA estimates that there are 7,000,000 "prohibited persons" not reported to the NICS by the states,
and they want every last one added to the system, just as I am sure that you do.
Wouldn't you agree that getting those state records into the NCIS, ASAP should be our:
#1 Priority to "Promote Gun Safety"?

Why don't any of our politicians ever mention this, who can they blame?

The t***h is that the bi-partisan majority feel that they have better things to do with OUR MONEY.
