Texas Cop Shoots Woman

Apparently, a rookie Texas cop has shot and k**led a woman while attempting to shoot her dog. Googling the story, I learned that the cop was sent to investigate a report of a woman lying in the grass.

When the Rookie approached to investigate, the report said her dog ran at the cop while barking. Most dogs would. I understand there are people who fear and loth dogs. However, that's no excuse for shooting one before it has been shown that the dog seriously intends to harm the cop. Most dogs just bark.

I'm no fan of cops. Having lived a life of answering to no one, I have never appreciated anyone telling me what to do. However, my attitude has nothing to do with the reality that there are many on the police forces of the country who joined up for all the wrong reasons.

Wearing a gun, and the opportunity to use it, plays a part in the reason far too many of these guys are wearing a badge. Whippin' your gun out, and shooting dogs as a feeble excuse for using it, is an indication the cop is trigger happy and shouldn't be on any police force.

And before anyone asks: no, I don't appreciate seeing water being thrown on the police. In fact, if the police wanna shoot something, shoot the jackass throwin' water and give the dogs a break.

If someone has a big enough dog to be seen as a threat they should keep it on a leash or behind a fence. Cops have seen the damage an attack dog can do to someone and know how fast they move, this is why police use canine units against dangerous criminals. Focus on the real issue, the woman who lost her life, a dog is a dog.

Like you, I am no great fan of cops, but what is the alternative? I do remember an incident back in 1983 which illustrates their frequent lack of sensitivity. At the time, I was living and working in Waukeegan, Illinois, about an hour north of Chicago. It was around 1 AM on a cold winter night and I was returning home from a date. I was driving on a back road, when a the speed limit dropped from 50 to 30 MPH. Before I could slow down, a female officer, with a radar gun pulled me over and issued a ticket. While writing the ticket, her tire went flat. She asked me if I could change it for her. I answered only if you rip up the ticket, which she couldn't. Needless to say, I left Miss Piggy on the side of the road to wait for a tow truck. Man enough to wear the badge; man enough to change her own tire. As for the recent incidents you mentioned, I would agree with you a bottle of water could do as much damage as the bite from a medium to large dog

But tell that to the animal rights fanatics, and you are barking up the wrong tree

Sounds like you are having little hissy fit. I am neither bragging nor ashamed of what I did. I didn't leave her to freeze to death or be devoured by wolves. There is a difference between law enforcement for the sake of public safety and law enforcement to for the sake of enhancing the town's bank account. Pulling over motorists less than 50 feet from where the speed limit lowered by 20 MPH qualifies as the latter. She inconvenienced me and I simply returned the favor. Why should I freeze my hands off in single digit temperatures, just so she could pull over some other victim. While I wouldn't want her to have suffered hypothermia while waiting for help, I chuckle at the thought of ten other cars going by faster than myself and her not being able to do a f*cking thing about it

Its a simple fact..She was doing her job and you were being NOT gentleman!!!....You know once they start to write a ticket they cant destroy it..Its against their policy...Ihad many speeding tckets and parking tickets too...And everytime i would ask them to give me a break, they would say that cant, once they started writting a ticket ,its over and done with!!!

And it's not my job to help her. She was manning a speed trap, plain and simple; I was pissed off, plain and simple. It was freezing cold and I was tired. I think most motorists would have done the same, unless her life was endangered. BTW, I related the incident to my dad. He would have helped a female officer, but were it a male officer, he would have declined the request and driven away after saying "One hand washes the other"

She should call for help from her employer. Totally wrong to expect a member of the public to fix an employer’s faulty equipment.

And totally stupid to expected a motorist to get his hands dirty for her after issuing a summons.

H**e to disagree with you but I do. He was on a back road and the speed limit drops 20 mph and she is sitting in the dark with a radar gun. That's a speed trap. She doesn't give a warning but a ticket. She had a choice and chose to legally rob a fellow citizen because she could. I would have done the same thing. She has a gun, a radio, and probably a cell phone. She inconvenienced him and took his money. Some women are just nuts and think they have special rights based on their sex. Those days are fading away because of acts like she did.

Well said, on your part. I do beg to differ on a few points. This happened in 1983, and cellphones were an expensive novelty; out of the reach of those earning a police officer's salary. Moreover, her actions did more harm to cops in general, than to woman. Over zealous traffic enforcement for the sake of raising money, is a sure way to piss off John Q Public, and change his attitude toward law enforcement professionals. Check out the two pictures and you will see what I mean

I didn't see a year posted. By the way, I was a cop during my first enlistment and wrote one ticket in six years because I was ordered to by my commander before my end of shift. It was against base policy to ride a bicycle without hands on the handlebars. I wrote up the commander of the flight line on his way to work. Was called on the carpet in less than 15 minutes. I figured they were just both officers and the laws didn't apply to them but I was famous for a few days. After I refused to play on the CO's football team I had to maintain a low profile for a while until he t***sferred out.
