As the media and Democratic Party tries to portray President Donald Trump's tweets about Baltimore as r****t, a resurfaced clip from last year shows Democratic Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh complaining about the poor conditions in part of the city, specifically "rats" and "dead animals."
Pugh made the remarks during a Fox 45 segment while touring a Baltimore neighborhood that was supposed to highlight her "violence-reduction initiative."
As Pugh toured the neighborhood, she said:
"What the hell? We should just take all this sh*t down. ... Whoa, you can smell the rats. ... Whew, Jesus. ... Oh, my God, you can smell the dead animals."WATCHOn CNN in 2015, Bernie Sanders disparaged West Baltimore:
But anyone who took the walk that we took around this neighborhood would not think you're in a wealthy nation; you would think that you were in a Third World country. ... But today, what we're talking about is a community in which half of the people don't have jobs. We're talking about a community in which there are hundreds of buildings that are uninhabitable. We’re talking about a community where kids are unable to go to schools that are decent.WATCHThe Washington Examiner dug up a tweet from 2016 in which Sanders wrote:
"Residents of Baltimore’s poorest boroughs have lifespans shorter than people living under dictatorship in North Korea. That is a disgrace."In February, USA Today published a list of the "25 Most Dangerous Cities in America," which was complied using data from the FBI’s 2017 Uniform Crime Report. Baltimore ranked as the third most dangerous city in terms of "murder ... non-negligent manslaughter, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault."
The Daily Wire has previously noted, pest control company Orkin ranked Baltimore as the ninth "rattiest city" in the country in 2018. The city ranked number eight in 2017, number six in 2016, and number nine in 2014.
The media worked overtime on Saturday to paint President Donald Trump as a r****t for tweeting about the conditions in the district in West Baltimore represented by Democratic Congressman Elijah Cummings (D-MD). CNN’s Victor Blackwell, for example, lashed out at Trump for suggesting Baltimore was “infested” with rats, claiming the infestation language from Trump was some r****t code for black and brown people.
"'Infested.' That's usually reserved for references to rodents and insects, but we've seen the president invoke 'infestation' to criticize lawmakers before. You see a pattern here?" he said on-air, nearly in tears.
However, PBS aired a documentary called "Rat Film" about the troubled city last year, detailing the issues the president highlighted about Baltimore.
The documentary, as one might suspect, was not condemned as "r****t" when it was aired.
"'Rat Film,' a documentary that takes the decades-long fight waged against Baltimore’s rat population and uses it as a lens through which to look at how the city has addressed myriad social issues over the decades, airs tonight on PBS," The Baltimore Sun reported in February 2018.
The docu, created by Baltimore filmmaker Theo Anthony, was "a crowd favorite" at Maryland's Film Festival, according to the news outlet.
"A longer version of Anthony’s film played at the festival, as well as at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Parkway in September. In chronicling Baltimore’s decades-long battle against its unwelcome rodent population, Anthony details some disturbing parallels with the ways city leaders have tried to deal with various urban situations," The Baltimore Sun notes.
Media Claim Trump Is R****t For ‘Infestation’ ‘Rat’ Tweet About Baltimore. These Videos Tell A Different Story."Rep. Elijah Cummings has been a brutal bully, shouting and screaming at the great men & women of Border Patrol about conditions at the Southern Border, when actually his Baltimore district is FAR WORSE and more dangerous. His district is considered the Worst in the USA," Trump posted in a series of tweets on Saturday morning. "As proven last week during a Congressional tour, the Border is clean, efficient & well run, just very crowded. Cummings’ District is a d********g, rat and rodent infested mess. If he spent more time in Baltimore, maybe he could help clean up this very dangerous & filthy place. . . . . Why is so much money sent to the Elijah Cummings district when it is considered the worst run and most dangerous anywhere in the United States. No human being would want to live there. Where is all this money going? How much is stolen? Investigate this corrupt mess immediately!"
