President Trump's travels to his private club Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Fla., give the chief executive a chance to unwind, hang out with friends and play golf. But that p**********l rest and recreation comes with a cost.

A new report from the Government Accountability Office says four such trips early on in Trump's presidency cost taxpayers $13.6 million, or some $3.4 million each. That is far higher than the estimates of Trump's travel costs early in his presidency, which were pegged at about $1 million per trip.

The congressional watchdog's report is the first official accounting of Trump's travel costs. The report also found that the Secret Service spent nearly $400,000 protecting Trump's sons Donald Jr. and Eric on trips they took in January and February 2017. The costs of Trump's visits to Florida were calculated based on trips in February and March of that year.

The GAO found that the government spent $10.6 million for the operating costs of government aircraft and boats and $3 million for "temporary duty costs of government personnel supporting the President's travel, including t***sportation, lodging, and meals and incidental expenses."

Trump's frequent visits to Mar-a-Lago, other Trump-branded golf courses and his hotel in Washington, D.C., have been criticized as serving as taxpayer-funded advertising for his business interests.

The GAO report was requested by congressional Democrats.

It also found that $60,000 was paid to Mar-a-Lago in expenses for the four trips, most of that for rooms at the resort for Secret Service agents. The report noted, however, that most agents did not stay at Mar-a-Lago.

According to the Washington Post, Trump has taken some 19 trips to Mar-a-Lago during his presidency so far. If the average cost of $3.4 million for the first four trips is extrapolated, that means the president's vacations have cost taxpayers at least $64.6 million. And that doesn't count travel to his club in Bedminster, N.J., where Trump goes in the summer.

“Donald Trump has degraded the presidency in countless ways,” said Alan Zibel, research director at Public Citizen’s Corporate Presidency Project and author of the report. “One of the most shocking is his shameless self-dealing, as exemplified by the continued spending of campaign money and taxpayer dollars to Trump’s own businesses, which he refused to fully divest. Before Trump, this pattern of personal of self-enrichment was a characteristic of third-world autocrats rather than the president of the United States.”

Trump fought off calls to separate himself from his businesses after his e******n and has declined to release his tax returns, which would give a better accounting of the money he has made as president.

But there are calls in Congress to prohibit the spending of federal funds on properties owned by an officeholder, including the president, if those public funds provide a profit to the officeholder.

“Trump has raised the art of the self-deal to unprecedented heights, enriching himself at the expense of taxpayers,” said Craig Holman, government affairs lobbyist for Public Citizen. “This requires a legislative response.”

As for the rest, President Trump's "vacations" are all working ones, unlike during his predecessor's trips to Hawaii this POTUS is constantly on the job -- imagine being a businessman with a multi-faceted portfolio who never actually has a real vacation because his every waking hour is spent doing business, whether he's in NY, DC or the South Sandwich Islands.

Well, now the business he does 18 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year is the business of the American people, and anywhere he feels comfortable doing that is fine with me.

If Mar a Logo makes a few extra dollars, who cares? At least he's not selling off 20% of our uranium stocks (talk about emoluments) or taking advantage of some "flexibility" to collude with "Vladimir."
