If the IRS released Nixon's taxes, they broke the law. But the IRS did NOT release Nixon's taxes to Congress. Providence Journal-Bulletin publishes Nixon’s alleged tax returns, showing he paid just $792.81 in federal income taxes in 1970 and $878.03 in 1971. His annual salary was $200,000. Nixon then released his tax returned himself covering the years 1969 through 1972. The only time the IRS has released protect (private) tax information was during Obama's administration when the IRS was targeting conservative groups applying for tax exempt status. Later investigations and hearings found the practice illegal.

Here's the thing. Tax returns are private information for individuals. If Congress or anyone else gets them without the consent of the taxpayer whose information is contained therein, then I would think the 5th amendment would apply. No self incrimination-because you are required to disclose all your income, from wh**ever source, legal or illegal, and you sign that you swear under penalty of perjury that it is complete and correct. Who on earth would willingly file or sign such a document if it could become public information simply because some one wished to cause trouble. The IRS is forbidden to give out that info and it is a felony to do so. I am a retired enrolled agent, enrolled to practice before the IRS, and I have a former IRS officer friend who was retired under threat of being charged with a felony because he talked to a taxpayer's accountant without having a signed power of attorney. Now, I would be in favor of ALL financial records of ALL people in Congress, the Judiciary, the Dept of State, and the Administration to be made public. I suspect they would fight that tooth and nail, especially those like Joe Biden, who has extensive dealings - very lucrative dealings-with China and the Ukraine, and the Majority leader of the Senate, whose wife is from China, and they have financial entanglements there as well. I would like to see where all of them have money hidden, where their families are heads of corporations or sit on boards of directors of those corporations. Then, and only then, would I care to see Trump's tax returns. The only returns they should be interested in are those from the years he was running for office and in office. Anything before that is off limits. By the way, I would also like to see the emails Hillary erased that were "personal". If she used government property to send them, and she did, then they are also fair game. Though she tried to get around any FOIA stuff by claiming they were on a private server, which in itself was not lawful-and put classified material at risk. There is enough swamp to be drained to take years and years to do-too much-we probably need to start over again-get the bozos out of there with their ill gotten gains and start with sensible people who really care about this country.

So, you are saying that because the IRS broke the law, violating Nixon's confidentiality, it is OK to break the law AGAIN? Lonely One, when are you fruitcakes going to understand that showing one's tax returns is NOT a requirement to be President? Do you understand that providing proof that one is a natural-born citizen IS a requirement to be President, but Obama didn't provide that proof. He got an affirmative action pass from Congress. There was no proof of Obama's birth until several years into his Presidency when he posted the forged certificate on the White House web site.

Let's stop fussing about Trump's taxes. The ONLY reason that Dems want the taxes is a fishing expedition hoping to find something, anything to condemn Trump. Give it up Lonely One.
