Exactly, I started saving money from my paper route when I was 12 years old. When I bought my first car I wanted a new 8-track tape deck installed but instead opted to continue using my AM/FM radio instead. Some people want the newest technology. That's fine if you have the money. I prefer for the manufacturing cost to drop before I buy. Look at how many people have garage sales to get rid of all the stuff they bought, and never used or didn't need. We throw money away right and left.

I'm reminded of the story about the guy sitting in the bar drinking beer and a woman approaches him and asked how much money he spends on beer each day at the bar. He replies that he has about two beers every day after work. She tells him that if he didn't spend all the money that he does on the beers, he could have bought a new Ferrari! He, in turn, asks her where her beer is and she says she doesn't drink beer. So he asks her, "Then where is your Ferrari?"

I had a paper route too, mowed lawns, washed cars, sold shoes at Thom McCann's, worked in factories at 16 and saved a lot of money for a kid.
I don't see any kids working today, no kid I know, related or otherwise works at anything but play. Nothing, no household chores at all. No lawns no maintenance, nothing. They play games online.

Do parents even give their children an allowance anymore to help them learn money management sk**l? Mostly, what I see is parents buying their children everything they want if they can afford it because they feel guilty from being at work all day.

There seems to be less opportunity for kids to earn money these days. They can't set up a lemonade stand without the Health department shutting them down. If they mow lawns the government wants them to declare income and pay Fica taxes. Yet somehow we let thousands of Mom & Pop stores operate in L.A. Country on a cash basis. You know they aren't declaring all their income on tax returns.

That's what happens when the Democrats try to create a utopia by taxing everything in sight.

I did the same things as a kid. I earned my own way my whole life.

My kids had to pay their way as well, and apparently it did some good. I just got off the phone with my daughter, and she was cracking the whip on her three making them help clean up the business that feeds them. My oldest grandson mows my son's lawn to pay his phone bill, and recently broke both wrists. But my son is cutting him no slack on the mowing. He said there is no reason that kid can't walk behind a self propelled mower with casts on his arms, he's mowing!

I'm gonna call this success!

This should be national news, kids with responsible parents who teach their children a work ethic by making them actually work.
But the lefties want a lazy crop of unaborted kids so that they are reliant on government and will v**e kommiecrat for the rest of their lives.

Are you kidding? If that made national news, those kids would be ripped away, and my daughter imprisoned for abusing them. My son would be done even worse!
Oh, wait....we live in Texas. They'll be OK.

I Just Thought Of Something
This Can't Make A $400 Emergency
Sounds Like It's From The 80's

How Is This
When Banks Have Been Passing Out $8,000 Credit Cards For Twenty Years

Makes Me Think Of These People:
We Were On Vacation, And Were In Helena, MT
There Was A Family With All Their Camping Gear Set Up At Wal-Mart
Cardboard Signs,
"Please Help, Out Of Money, Out Of Gas"
I Told My Wife Not To Give Them A Dollar
They Look Like The People At Work That Snarl
"We Don't Believe In Credit Cards"
Yep
And Now You're Stuck On A Camping Trip With-Out Gas
A $200 Texaco Card, They Wouldn't Be In That Fix

Beggars On The Side Of The Road

Look at how many young people have a credit card from their parents' account, in case of an emergency.
Then they go off to college and wind up with $100,000 student loan debt. Yeah, I know all the statistics show you earn a lot more with a college degree (in g****r studies or Chicano history?). Most would be better off with a tech school for 2 years and an apprenticeship. How many more sociologists or women's studies majors do we really need?

HA !!
That's Our 40yr Old Son
That's Why He Lives With Us
Instead Of His Ex-Wife And Kids
In Her Comfy Suburban Lifestyle

That's All He Does
We Need Him To Help Eat The Excess Food We Cook
But He Only Skims The Cream
No Salad Or Sides
And Takes His Plate Back To His Room
I Love Him, But I Can't Stand Being In The Same Room

But That's Not The Point Of The OP
The OP Uses A 30yr Old Line About $400 Emergency
To Insinuate The Average American Is Struggling,
Struggling Hand To Mouth

And I Don't Believe That's True For The Average American
Even When We Had Pre-Adolescent Kids
And All We Could Buy Was Used Everything
We Took Out Of State Vacations
Our Gas Card Was $200, Our VISA - $2000
Nobody Goes To The Bank For A $400 Emergency Loan
