Judge Laughs As Trump's Attorney Said Congress Does Not Have The Authority To Investigate The President

Apparently Barr has convinced that his theories on ultimate executive power are what Trump and the white house are going by, because the constitution definitely lists congress as the entity that has a constitutional right to investigate the president. If congress can't do it then nobody can, no matter what the president does congress can't even look into it? Barr has written to the effect that it is his opinion that basically nothing can be done to the president, hence nobody can investigate him since they can't indict or prosecute.

The fly in that ointment is that congress can initiate impeachment proceedings, and they have to investigate properly whether or not they have cause.

This should be interesting, and apparently Trump wants "his" supreme court to decide whether or not he can be held accountable.

Even the supreme court should be deciding on the question "does congress have the right to investigate a sitting president" for the constitution and uphold that oversight right. This isn't about whether they have a valid reason, they have dozens of valid reasons for investigating a dozen things.

U.S. Constitution, Article II, section 4 http://history.house.gov/Institution/Origins-Development/Impeachment/
The Constitution gives the House of Representatives the sole power to impeach an official, and it makes the Senate the sole court for impeachment trials. The power of impeachment is limited to removal from office but also provides for a removed officer to be disqualified from holding future office. Fines and potential jail time for crimes committed while in office are left to civil courts.

Congress not only has the right, but I believe it's their duty also.

And of course you agree with Barr that congress has no constitutional right to investigate the president?
