So laws really have no meaning if you disagree with them.

If trump gets away with this executive order, there will be no stopping him in the next 16 months.

You will just have to wait until about 5 pm. Latest reports is that he has already scrapped his plan for an executive order to add the question, but we shall see.

You actually need to pay attention to what the constitution you profess to hold so dearly says...

the constitution makes it very clear that the census and how it is conducted is under the control of congress, and it downplays the position the president is even involved...ditto the DOJ, it is not the DOJ responsibility.

The right cares as much about the constitution and law as Trump does

Please don't exclude Obama. He used executive orders a lot. From what I understand, more than many others, including recent presidents.

And don't forget that Kamala Harris has stated that if she is elected president, she will give Congress only a while to act on gun control & if it doesn't, she will use executive orders.

But it's a lot more than the Left does. Many of your politicians have openly spurned it. Harry Truman's seizures of the steel mills (it might have been the railroads) was a clear violation of everything The Constitution is about. FDR's seizure of gold & unilateral devaluation of the dollar were obvious excesses for which he should have been impeached.

You're just another self deluding liberal who despises everything you disagree with.

He has every right to enforce Congress' laws. The courts have NO constitutional power to interpret The Constitution. If you can read, read it.

Obama was reduced to issuing EOs because the Republican Congress stomewalled and obstructed everything Obama said and did.

In the first place, it isn't ADDING a citizenship question. The question has been on every census long form since it was first asked. In the last census (2010) no long form was released by order of the administration. The only census form used was a 10 question short form. If having the citizenship question on the 2020 long form is ADDING it to the census, than all the other questions which have been on previous long forms and were not one of the 10 questions on Obama's short form -- are also being added. by Trump. Ridiculous!

In the second place, the left's arguments are illogical at best. The article states, "Critics say that asking about citizenship in the census discriminates against racial minorities and is aimed at giving Republicans an unfair advantage in elections. Trump and his supporters say it makes sense to know how many non-citizens are living in the country."

Lets look at each point.
1) If asking whether you are a citizen is racist, why is asking what your race is NOT racist?
2) How does asking if you are a citizen discriminate against minority citizens?
3) How can it give Republicans an advantage unless the Democrats are planning for non citizens to break the law and vote? Nor would any seats be added in the House of Representatives if the citizenship question remains, but seats will be lost primarily in midwest states and added in coastal populous states if the citizenship question is not allowed. It is the removal of the citizenship question which will give Democrats an UNFAIR advantage. Leaving it in will keep the status quo unless a change in citizen population in some states change the number of seats. Whether any such change benefits Republicans or Democrats, it would be fair and LEGAL.
4) Of course it makes sense to know the numbers of both citizens and non citizens. The citizenship question will give a pretty accurate account of the number of citizens, but whether the question is in or out, the number of non-citizens will almost certainly not be accurately reflected on the census. But without the question, we will not only not know how many non-citizens there are, but we also won't know how many citizens there are.

Taking the citizenship question out, only helps law breakers and those promoting or benefiting from law breaking.

A citizenship question hasn't been on a census form since 1950.

Yes it is under Congress. But it also states WHEN the census is to be taken, and WHAT the purpose of the census is. Although many questions have been added to the enumeration of citizens over time, the purpose regards voting for Congress and congressional seats. The early census did not ask about you education, income, marital status, or the myriad other questions which have been added over the years. The census was ONLY to count the number of citizens in each state of the United States! That was the cake. The rest of the questions are the icing. So the left wants to keep the icing but get rid of the cake.

He has an obligation first and foremost to the United States Constitution!!!!! The US Constitution calls for a census to be taken every 10 years to determine how many citizens are in each state.

So it's justified for Obama to use EOs when Congress stonewalls what he wants but not if Trump does because Congress stonewalls. There ids one big difference though--none of Trump's EOs have been anti-Constitutional.
