Sex With Children In A Statutory Rape Sense Is Virtually Okay

There have been several cases hit the media where female teachers have had sex with underage boys, and it seems to result in prison terms and certainly the loss of their teaching jobs... yet sex with underage girls is far more prevalent than gets much attention.

Society will look the other way, a guy who rapes his step daughter whether he can say it was consensual or not will have his wife look the other way, families will look the other way when an uncle or even grandfather has sex with an underage girl.

I'm guessing that there is not a single person on this site who hasn't known of a situation in their family or someone else's where sex with an underage girl happened, and technically speaking the person should have been charged with statutory rape. The defense of "she wanted it" does not apply. Then there is the step father who gets caught raping his step daughter whether of not it was consensual, and the girl's mother refuses to press charges because the man is the bread winner and it would bankrupt the family to have him put in jail.

A friend of mine that was fifteen when we were in high school had a girlfriend that was also fifteen. Her step father took her home from a ball game and parked the car and raped her. She had been a virgin as she was not even been having sex with her boyfriend. She got home crying hysterically and told her mother she had been raped by the stepdad. Her mother basically beat the crap out of her for enticing him to have sex, accused her of teasing him and wanting it.

As far as I'm concerned both her mother and stepfather should have been put in prison. This was in the early 70's, and quite frankly people didn't go to the police and press charges on much of anything, families kept their dirty linen secret.

California has a higher statutory age of consent than most states at 18, but 17 and consensual seems to be rather unremarkable unless the situation has a higher visibility. Personally I think it should be dealt with harsher than it is, but that gets hard as the lines between what is consensual or not come into play.

There are not that many people who haven't been aware of a family scandal, whether it was in theirs or elsewhere.

I’m pretty much in agreement with you on this one, woody other than there’s been a real uptick of women teachers with their students. I don’t dispute that statutory rape is underreported as well. I really don’t know the ratio or percentages that go unreported or so I won’t dispute what you’ve presented. I will say, my ex wife and I were together for 30 years and she told me awful and depressing stories of being sexually molested as a preteen, starting at around 9 yrs old by a female teenaged cousin, that lasted about 5 years. I am saddened by the way our youth both boys and girls are treated. Thanks for posting this and reminding us of this societal evil and that we should be watching out for vulnerable children.

I was born in 1943 and sex with a girl was forbidden until one was married. I personally have never encountered a case of sexual abuse of females although looking back on it now there were a couple of female teachers that I wouldn't have minded being abused by but that was many years ago all of that was taboo back then. Of course I was also raised in fly over country and we just weren't as forward as some of those coastal communities were. But I guess in some cases that was a good thing.

I do agree with you but however there's an uptick of women teachers having sex with young men in some cases even marrying them after they turn 21! I think the book needs to be thrown harder at the women because the men who do it to the girls get much tougher sentences then the women do rape is rape doesn't matter whether who commits it male or female they both should have the same penalties!
